Dust Right® Canister Filter for Wall Mount Dust Collector

Item #
53522
Rating:
90% of 100

With this one simple upgrade, you'll increase the filtration of your Wall Mount Dust Collector by up to 30 times, giving the air quality in your shop a welcome boost. The premium pleated filter captures dust down to 1-micron in size, compared to 30 microns for the stock filter bag, and 5 microns for the upgraded filter bag. Better filtration amounts to better safety for your lungs. You also get the convenience of a crank-style filter cleaner—just turn the handle to clear dust off the pleats. Last but not least, the dust now drops neatly into an included plastic bag for easy emptying.

Dust Right collection system with canister filter. I highly recommend it!
I actually just got to use this for the first time today. I'm starting to gain tools on my shop and got my planer set up. I was highly impressed with the lack of wood chips and dust after I ran several boards through the planer with the dust collection system hooked up. I have the motor and the canister system (sold separately, ) but well worth it!
I added an elbow off the collector after this as well as the kit for multiple quick connections.

So far it is working well
I have only been using Dow a few weeks so far but I love it. I am using it with my home made system suing components being trashed at work so I had to fabricate an adaptor for it to clamp to but that wasn’t a big deal

The perfect mate for the wall mount collector unit!
I purchased the wall mount collector simply because of the attachable filter unit that blocks down to 1 micron particles.
I have installed the system and given it a test run but I have not yet put the unit into full service which I hope to do very soon.
I am impressed with the noise level and the way that bags are removable. I wish that an extra plastic bag or two would have been included in the package.

Great addition to my Rockler Dust Right. Increased suctioning force and of course cut way down the saw dust in the air. Seemed to increase noise level. Considering isolating unit by enclosing it from work area. Highly recommend because it adapts to Dust Right easily and effectively.

Does the filter ever need replacing?
Quint F on Aug 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: no, it is cleanable though. You get the convenience of a crank-style filter cleaner—just turn the handle to clear dust off the pleats.
Does Rockler sell the plastic collection bags for the new canister and, if so, how much are they?
mkolodner on Aug 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, a pack of 3 is available for $9.99 as item # 55408
What are the dimensions of the canister?
mkolodner on Aug 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 5" inlet that attaches to DustRite, Top Diameter is 15", Bottom Diameter is 15 1/4", Cannister is 17" high.
How long is the plastic bag for the canister?
mkolodner on Aug 18, 2016

I have a Rockler wall mount vacuum. Does this filter with plastic bag replace the original bag?
James D on Aug 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes.
What is the diameter of the bag opening?....if it's is right I could place this on top of my collector in stead of a filter bag, just need a plate to close off the 5" port.
Paul V on Aug 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 5" inlet that attaches to DustRite, Top Diameter is 15", Bottom Diameter is 15 1/4"
I have a wall mount collector that looks like yours, it is made by Grizzly, and has a four inch outlet for the bag…Will this filter maybe work on my collector???
Roger Hartgrave on Jul 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Sorry, this one is made for 5" outlet
I do sandblasting in a blast cabinet. How well would this work with the blasting dust? I use a shop vac right now. Thank you.
Shaun M on Oct 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I can only speak to my more conventional setup in using this filter with the wall-mounted collector as being very effective in saw dust collection for table saw, router table, and miter saw. I suspect your blasting dust is much finer than saw dust and so some might get through the filter. There is a little leakage around the fittings for me, but it is minimal. There would also be the concern of the fine dust getting into the bearings of the dust collector.
I want to use this filter with my Dewalt planer that has its own built in chip/dust blower that is very powerful. Therefore, I do not need the Dustright vacuum; only the filter and bag. It seems that the inlet diameter is 5". Is that outside diameter or inside? Does anyone sell an adapter that would allow the connection of either a 2-1/2" or 4" dust hose to that inlet?
Brian S on Aug 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The flange on the filter for your purpose is indeed a 5" female flange approximately 1" high, with a clamp allowing it to be tightened around a 5 in O.D. Pipe. Not really sure where you would find a 5" O.D. tube that would adapt to air hose, but that would be the least of your problem, in my opinion. Even with a "blower that is very powerful" as you state, my experience leads me to believe that you could not "BLOW" the air through corrugated tubing without it fouling up inside. Remember also that you will be dealing with "Head Pressure" when blowing. No "Head pressure" exists when "PULLING" the air. Pulling dust and chips thru a hose in exponentially easier that pushing it, even if the inside surface of the tube were smooth.
Hope this helps.

Will this work with the Shop Fox W1826 Wall Dust Collector?
Alexander on Nov 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Alexander, The answer from me is "possibly". I know this canister filter was specifically designed for the Dust Right wall mounted dust collector, however I was able to retrofit it to the Harbor Freight 1HP dust collector using a 4" ABS coupling I found Lowe's. If that Shop Fox exhaust port has the same outer diameter as the Dust Right unit, you might be in business. Otherwise some innovation might be in order.
What happens when the filter is exhausted? Is it $199 for a replacement?
Chuck J on Nov 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The filter has an internal device for cleaning (use handle to operate) so the filter should operate for a very long time. I assume that it will eventually wear out and would need to be replaced then. But this should not be frequent and I think the cost would be the price of a new one unless they can come up with a way to replace the media only..
How many square feet of filter material does this filter have?
Architeuthis77 on Mar 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That is one for the manufacturer.
This has worked well for my small shop, but I did find its limit. Cutting ½ x 1 ½" dados in 8/4 ash for breadboard ends was too much for the unit - the saw ((SawStop Contractor) and air filled with dust. Without the Canister, the Wall mount might have been OK, but I had by then already gotten rid of my collection bag for the wall mount. Up until then, it has taken everything I have dished at it with my table saw, router table, 13" planer and 6" jointer. In the future, I will make cuts like that in smaller bites.
Will this filter work with a 2 HP Harbor Freight DC or will it significantly decrease CFM?
Kevin N on Jan 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I put this filter on my 2HP Harbor Freight unit and added a separator. It does decrease CFM but for my small setup it wasn't a big issue. If you have your unit piped throughout your shop or have long runs i wouldn't recommend it.
Does this filter, couple with the Dust Right Wall Mount Dust Collector eliminate the need for an air filtration system? I see stand alone air cleaning systems from Jet and Powermatic. Not sure how to determine if I need that as well.

BEST ANSWER: I do not think so. All machines will leak some dust despite the best vacuum system you can devise. I make sure to run my air filter ration system when machining wood, and I leave it on for a few hours afterwards once the shop is closed up.
Will this work with Shopfox version of this wall mounted dust collector?
Psychdoc808 on Sep 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Don't know, but could probably be made to fit if they are similar looking, depending on your skill level.
I have the older style "floor" dust collector, that I have since wall-mounted. Looks to be the same casing and motor - true? Does this work for that model wall mounted?
Matt I on Dec 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This should work fine. I have found this filter has to be cleaned often.
I have a shop fox dust collector will it fit . . It's wall mount?
Ronald Z on Apr 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I suspect it may not be a direct fit; but if you're ingenious enough I think you should be able to adapt it... need to consider the overall diameter of the Rockler filter before trying anything...
Do you also carry those plastic bags? I mean if I'd like to buy more of em

Building my first woodshop. What is the advantage of combining the Dust Right Filter with the Dust Right Dust Collector...compared to the Dust Collector standalone? For the price of the filter, I might as well buy a ceiling air filtration system instead. Or, do i need both types of filtration running simultaneously?
