Rockler Router Collet Extension for 1/4'' Shank Bits

Gives you the extra lift you need for comfortable, convenient above table bit changes, as well as additional depth of cut.

This collet extender allows you to change router bits from above the table—even without a lift! Even if you have a lift, they still make bit changes easier because you won't have to remove the insert ring. They're also great for custom made router tables with very thick tops, as they provide the additional depth of cut needed for many routing tasks. Use them with our Router Table Spline Jig (#59288, sold separately) to achieve full depth of cut when machining dovetail splines.

Worked as advertised
I needed the length for my router table. It fit into my 1/2" chuck and held my 1/4" bit securely. No problems

AWESOME!
I have a 1/2" shank router but only 1/4" shank bits. This extension worked GREAT! Adds enough length for me to use the 1/4" bits on my router table and does a great job of cutting. Ran the router at about half speed as suggested.

Does exactly what it says... it fits into the half-inch collet on your router, then lets you use 1/4-inch shank bits extended about 1.5 inches further than normally possible. I used it with a fairly dinky old Craftsman router table making long runs of floor moulding and had no problems.

This extension works well
I was very happy when I purchased the 1/4 inch extension. It has worked without any issues, although I haven't had it long.

Router collet extension
This does the job of raising the router bit to cut slots and dovetails in box corners when used with Rockler's miter slot jig. It is well balanced and adds no extra vibration while in use. I rated it at 4 stars due to the fact that there is no wrench provided (18 mm) and it requires a router with a 1/2" collet, which wasn't mention in the description. I was expecting 1/4" at both ends.

Buyer Beware!
The extension is totally worthless to me until I go buy TWO 18mm wrenches. A normal set of metric wrenches has 17mm and 19mm, plus you need two of them. I don't mind metric but if it was standard (11/16) I would have wrenches.

I like it BUT the shaft is to long making it sit to height in the lift. So for some projects I will have to take it out. Making it obsolete for all bits

The extension bit came with a 1/3" shaft which will not fit the router unit that I was given as a present. The router unit collet only accepts 1/4" shafts.

I sent it back unused!

Shaft too long
I bought a Rockler router table for my Bosch router and wanted to change bits without taking the router out. So, I bought this extender to bring the bit high enough to wrench it. I had to go out and buy the two 18 mm wrenches required to work it and then discovered that the shaft was so high I could not lower the bit to my desired height. Now I need to buy a router lift to make my router table work right.

Using my Dewalt plunge router in my router table does not allow most of my bits to sit high enough for many cut depths. This looks like just the ticket and the reviews were good.

What is the diameter at the collet end?
Roger B on Jan 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The collet itself is 1/2" across and it holds a 1/4" router bit.
Can I use this on my plunge router and what is the highest rpm speed for this?
Klawz on Jun 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The instructions say "Router Collet Extenders are not recommended for use in non-variable-speed routers or handheld routers". It also says to follow your router instructions for max speed for the bits diameter. On a side note it also says not to use bits larger than 2" in diameter. I hope this helps.
Are these made in the USA?
jack r on Jul 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, made in Taiwan. If you are going to use in a router table you need a lift or maybe a plunge router.
They are too long for a fixed base router in a table.
