Rockler T-Slatwall Cutter Router Bit - 1-1/16" Dia x 13/16" H x 1/2" Shank

Specifically designed to quickly create the slots for a slatwall storage system.
Item #
22602
Rating:
88% of 100
Organize your most frequently used tools with your own customized slatwall storage system. This bit hogs out the slots so you can keep your tools visible and within easy reach. It allows you to reuse scrap wood or left over panels as shop storage. Note: Not intended to create T-slots for jigs. If that is your goal, use bit 26099.
 • Carbide-tipped bit cuts 5/16" x 1-1/16" slot with 3/8" groove.
 • Works best with MDF and soft woods.
 • When working with hardwood, this bit requires a much lower rate of feed to eliminate burning and breakage.

Dr Rockler : or how I learned to stop worrying and love the tool.
It did exactly what it said on the tin. Ordering tools from a website can be dicey, but this was smooth as creamy peanut butter. The tool came with some protective goo around it that was easily removed. It held up to near constant use for 8 hrs.

Tl;Dr 10/10 would order again.
This is what I built with it. I know, it's straight out of the 80's. It's what the customer wanted.

Worked just like it should, just...
Worked just like it should, just like most thing from Rockler. I actually used it to make extra wide slat opening just running it several times consecutively next to the prior cut. It ripped through my 3/4" hard maple with little hesitation. Now I just need the plans to actually assemble the slatwall hangers.

Good clean cut when you set...
Good clean cut when you set your router speed high enough. :-) First time I tried it I had the router too slow, and I made a hash of the job. Luckily I was using a test piece (always test things first, right?).

Used it to make a new higher Backboard for my router table and to relocate my featherboards on it, it works great, worth the investment. Makes a clean sharp cut.

This is a terrific bit as...
This is a terrific bit as is typical for Rockler. The only reason I can't give this the highest rating is that I was assuming the slot was the right size for the T-bolts. The bolts "fit" but the slot is way too big to keep the t-bolt from spinning. This prevents me from being able to fully tighten my jigs. I wish the slot size matched up with the t-bolts.Editor's note: For cutting t-slots for t-bolts we recommend using t-slot cutter 26099 rather than the bit in this offer which is used for making slotwalls.

Only 1/8" smaller than the similar Frued bit.
That's only 1/16" on each side.
Did I mention that it cost less too :)

I'm looking for an aluminum slatwall insert that is copacetic with the Rockler slatwall router bit (item # 22602). Any suggestions? Thanks.

BEST ANSWER: It’s been a while , but look at ryersons they do aluminum extrusions you might be able to find something , it’s been a while so I’m not sure what they have any more. If it’s a strength issue use hard wood and epoxy in a threaded insert .... if it’s just a look then you could prime and paint with a silver. Last thought if you make the female part from would you can countersink in from the back on wood and use a screw and flat and lock washer combination should give you plenty of strength
If I am looking to make slatwall systems out of 3/4 sanded plywood would there be a router bit that is more suited to a hardwood use? I will be making a large amount of panels.
