A dedicated disc sander is a useful addition to any shop, but it's another tool expense that often falls down the list of "must haves" until it never gets purchased. What you may not know is that an ordinary bench grinder is easy to convert into a disc sander by simply replacing a grinding wheel with a plywood disk and a spacer (see page 46).
