Professional Hinge
This is a high quality hinge that takes precise work to install. I didn't have any issues with short, breaking, or stripping screws, but you cannot hurry things. Doing this again though, I think I would go with brass, as the visual difference is minimal; cost savings is huge.

I recently used these hinges on a walnut box. I was pleasantly surprised to find they were very sturdily constructed and they supported my 12" X 18" lid with no problem. The only thing I would recommend changing is adding some longer screws.

This hinge is NOT for the amature woodworker. There are no instructions to install. Here is what I finally came up with. The hinge mortice is a 5/16 router bit cut 1 7/8 and 1/8 deep from the back in both top and bottom of the box (correct inset for lid to lift correctly, or slightly less). Then it takes a deep mortice for the lid stay when closed. It takes a mortice in both the top and bottom 1/2 inch from rear, 1 3/16 by 1/8 3/4 inch long. This pocket allow the stay to close and not interfere with hinge screws. when finished it is a beautiful hinge. lots of precise cutting. Good luck.

Very lovely hinges. Bought them for my wife's jewelry box/birthday present. The only problem I have with this product is the screws. They are beyond a joke. Too small. A larger gauge screw would be better. The small screws strip to easily. I could not find a screwdriver to fit the screws at my local hardware store or any screws to use so I could put them in first before the proper screws. Even with pre drilling and using a wax to help drive them in, they still stripped.

When installed, does the hinge protrude beyond the back of the box? The installed item picture makes it seem that about half of the hinge barrel would remain outside of the box/case back.

WOULD THESE WORK FOR A DROP FRONT SUPPORT AS WELL AS A LID?
Casey J on Aug 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I think these hinges would be a little too light in construction for drop front support; they work very nicely for a small box lid as shown. In stead of inserting the hinge in the end of the box as shown , I made an extra block for the hinge ; it was less work and kept the end of the box corner stronger because you did not remove all of the material for the hinge arm.

Does the arm only disappear into the bottom? The top I'm using is less than 3/4" thick
Lynn B. K on Aug 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, the arm is hidden equal distance into the top and bottom, as per the instructions. I think it was a 1" deep recess in each. Not sure if you could go 1/2" deep in the top and 1-1/2" in the bottom without affecting operation... possibly. I remember the clearances were pretty tight with the curvature of the arm.
What is the size. Would they work on an old secretary's desk? hinge shown in picture
