Solid Brass Small-Box Hinge

Item #
64733
Rating:
84% of 100

Excellent for jewelry boxes and all other small-box applications. When you view the box from the inside, you won't see the hinge because it is mortised into the back side of the box and the back edge of the top. The full mortise hinge provides a built-in stop, allowing a lid to remain open at about 95°. For use when an additional stay is not desired

Very classy hinge
These are my go to hinges for small boxes. I also have a pair of the Brusso routing templates which makes installing them a breeze. Everything that Brusso has is a little pricey, but worth it. Solid hinge, looks great, firm stop somewhere ~90 degrees.

mounting screws break easily
The hinges are of good quality, and work well. However the mounting screws break easily. This is a major disaster once you have mortised the hinges in place. How are you ever going to get this little screw out, with out drilling and making plugs, glueing etc. etc. You'll probably do what I did, and try to relocate another hole along side the broken screw. The problem with that is the screw is now "cock eyed" in the hinge, and every thing goes a little crooked after that. Disappointing at best. All that work and the hinge and screws do not fit exact. Hinges are good. Mounting screws break easily.

get better measurements
The hinge itself is of good quality but the screws which came with it were over 1/16th longer than advertised. This may not seem like a big deal but when you're talking about hinging a box with sides that are 5/16 thick it becomes a HUGE deal.

I thought these would close flat, but they don't.
Back to the other Brusso hinges.

What is the minimun width of the stock with the screws that are included?
Jack K. on Aug 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would not go any smaller than 7/16" in material thickness
