worked as described
I used the cleat to hang a floating headboard. it worked great and was easier than trying to connect to single smaller cleats blindly. It also was only 1/4" from the wall so the headboard did not rock. My only complaint was the dirt from the metal. Online they look so clean but in person they cause black to rub off. I kept them in plastic until I was ready to use them

These cleats are working as intended. They are holding an 85 pound headboard to my plaster wall. Thank you to my friends at the Novi store who directed me to this product. My wife thinks I am Bob Villa, and my Rockler associates know better.

This product worked great for hanging a heavy headboard on our bedroom wall. We had previously used this on another headboard about 5 years ago. Both projects worked out to our satisfaction. You just need to measure accurately, and use a good level.

Steel cleats are very useful.
I purchased several steel cleats to mount a back bar to my cement wall in the basement. They were easy to use and I would recommend the product to anyone attempting to hang something that they might want to move at some point.

Made a padded headboard
This cleat was perfect for hanging a padded headboard. I cut plywood to size, attached a foam cushion, batting, and then fabric, stapled to the back. This cleat made easy work of hanging this headboard at just the height I wanted over the queen size bed. This cleat holds lots of weight and it's easier to attach this level on the wall than fooling with multiple hangers and trying to get them level.

I built a large hanging cabinet...
I built a large hanging cabinet to store heavy woodworking tools in my shop. I was able to use two lag bolts to attach the cleat directly to the wall studs. The cleats were easy to install and carry a lot of weight. If I ever move the cabinet the two holes in the drywall will be easy to fix.

I am making a shelve of raw timber with bark still on piece and metal attached to mimic nature growing on it. It is on the heavy side and want to make sure my clients have no problems hanging it. So glad you have this item in longer sections. I had a hard time finding it else where.

How much of a gap is there between the item being hung and the wall?
Sally L on May 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The specs I found say: Protrudes 7/16" from wall when pieces are assembled.
What is the maximum weight these cleats can bear?
C G on May 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It really depends on the size of the fasteners and whether or not the fasteners are firmly into the wall studs. With appropriately sized fasteners in an ideal situation, I wouldn't be afraid to hang 50 lbs. from one of these cleats.
How do I make the cleats shorter because 18" is two inches too long?
Larry L on Jan 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I had the same issue and simply used a metal chop saw to custom fit them and then drilled an additional mounting hole. If you don't have a chop saw then locate the length of cut with a pencil and then carefully lay down some blue painters tape as a cutting guide and cut it with a hack saw using an aggressive(less teeth per inch) blade.
Will two of these hold a large cabinet up to 200lbs?
Leslie G on Aug 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: With a total of 6 #10 screws the cleat brackets shouldn’t fail even if the cabinet is loaded to 500# or more. A single #8 screw in the 1/16” steel sheet has a tear strength of around 200#. That would be the actual tear strength, no safety factor. Allowing for 1 screw for each cleat to be lightly loaded and for the usual house bounciness during a party you will get by if and only if the screws are into something that can support them. Toggle bolts transfer the load to weak gypsum plasterboard and you’re likely to have a domino-effect crash at some point. You need to be able to transfer the load to structural materials.
What is the gauge of metal use in this product? Is it made with weldable steel?
wmetal on Feb 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: tech sheet says they are 16 gauge steel
I have never used a french cleat. I want to hang a 22 pound metal floating shelf. is it possible to weld the cleat to the metal so i dont have to drill holes into it?
p m on Dec 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I didn't weld mine but see no reason why it couldn't be done. They are quite heavily made steel and can hold a great deal of weight in addition to being 1 1/2 ft long.
