Woodworking Experience:
Nice and easy solution.
When building my dust collection system, designing a thru-wall connection involved pipe (usually PVC) and adapting it for hose or duct use. These are a 'no adapter' solution. The only improvement I would request is for Rockler to design in screw holes in each corner of the flanges as you need them to secure them to the walls. Otherwise, well done.

Exactly What I Needed
This is one of those little things that you never think you'd use until you actually buy one. Then you think "How did I ever get along without this?". This is how I always wanted the dust to exit my shop.

Used in a cyclone dust collector
Cutting this dust port in half gave me the perfect set of two connectors to 4" hoses and an extension pipe to build a cyclone dust collector. I used the Thein separator design and repurposed the fittings in this kit to connect the hoses to the separator.

This works great and it's so easy to install. Well worth it. It allowed me to put my dust collector in a closet where it's nice and quiet. Yes, the remote for the collector came from Rockler and it works through the wall.

Can I use this to vent my dust collector outside?
Matt K on Feb 19, 2017
I purchased this item for that purpose, but have yet to install it. But to answer your question, yes, this is an excellent fixture for venting your 4" dust collector to the outside. The only thing missing here for that purpose is a means of covering the outer opening. I intend to use a 4" dryer vent with a flap that opens and closes automatically. Or, you could get by using a 4" end cap, removing and replacing it manually with each use. But, this could be quite a hassle after awhile. If you need to use tape to connect the tubing of a vent cover to the tubing of this port kit, aluminum duct tape is pretty strong and works well for this. At any rate, I would have it placed high enough above ground level to prevent critters from having access. Also, make sure you are clear of any wiring, plumbing, or other obstructions in the wall. Depending on the exterior makeup of your building and how you plan to cover the opening, you may have to do a little engineering of your own to assure that it is caulked and leak-proof from a driving rain, or the runoff coming down the wall surface. If you have siding with planks or shingles that overlap, locate your opening just below an overlap so that the lip of the exterior flange can slide up underneath and behind the plank above. Pre-position the exterior flange first and mark where to cut so that you don't accidentally cut the opening too close to the overlap. Hope this helps and good luck!
Can this be used for dryer venting into a garage?
A shopper on Apr 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would assume it could be used to vent a clothes dryer, however I would be concerned about the melting point of the plastic. I would not recommend using this product for a dryer vent. Metal products are readily available that provide a better comfort zone for safety.
Is this the right gate to use with my Rockler Through-the-Wall-Kit? My flange on my old gate, which vents outside, cracked and broke so I cannot attach a hose from the dust collector to it. The old gate attached to the kit wall plate with a short rubber hose fitting that has a hose clamp on one end and a rubber ridge that fit over a groove in the back of the blast gate. The new through the wall kit description says to use with this gate, but since there is no photo of the back of the thing, I am not sure.

Rockler 4'' StableGate™ Blast Gate
BEST ANSWER: Hi Jacob, sorry I can't help you with this because I use my through the wall kit going directly to collector which is in its own room then I use a collection hose from other side and move it as needed to Machine being used. For me this works better than gates. Good luck. Tom
Is there a 6 inch version and can it accommodate a blast gate on either side?
Pondhockey on Jun 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If you are asking if there is a six inch diameter version I don't think there is. It can accommodate a blast gate on either side.
What is the exact outer diameter of the through-tube? I have ordered one of these and want to cut the hole in advance. Thanks
Chris on Dec 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The outer diameter is 3-7/8". A 4" hole saw works well but you can use a 3-7:8 hole saw, or an adjustable hole cutter to get a tighter fit. The flanges on each side of the wall, hide any gap that might exist using the 4" hole saw.
Do the instructions encourage installation at/near a wall stud ?
