Blu-Ray Steamer Trunk
These brass plated corners really made my steamer trunk look-a-like look like the real thing. I added brass plated: oblong latches, spring lock and center corners plus 2 faux leather trunk handles. All of the items were 5 star quality and I recommend all of them. Some of the other items in the steamer trunk hardware kit were unneeded for this project so I didn’t order them. The project (my own design) is a cabinet to hold Blu-Rays and is not a trunk with a lid. I used several pictures of the other excellent trunks shown on the Rockler steamer trunk site to give me an idea of what mine should look like.

They were the same as on a trunk made for me by my father-in-law. This was very special to me and the corners were rusted and ruined by moisture. These made it as good as new.

Works well for my application
I use the trunk corners around work benches to save my shirts from ripping, The larger ones which are available from rockler work well for this application.

Woodworking Experience:
Everything old is new again.
I recently decided to finally refinish my daughter's military trunk. She died while a cadet at the USAFAcademy in 1988, and the trunk was returned to our family in less than pristine condition. The worst part was that it was missing a bottom corner. I ordered four new corners from your company, and with the new corners, a new paint job and interior refinishing, it is better than new.

I am building a steamer trunk...
I am building a steamer trunk using the plans that I purchased at Rockler. I have never used these corner trunk corners before. The lid requires that the corners be modified so as to conform to the less than 90 degree angles on the curved top. These brackets are very sturdy and I am finding it difficult to bend them to fit the corners.
Editor's note: With a style of corner such as this it is common to give the the edges of the box or lid a slight radius to give a better fit.

Would like them to be a touch smaller size, if they came in two sizes I would have picked the smaller of the two. But my costumer was happy, that was what counts.

Please clarify the measurement 1-3/4 inches "from screw hole to "center of tab." What does the "center of tab" mean? More helpful to me would be the distance from the screw hole to the corner of the trunk itself. Thanks.

BEST ANSWER: See Technical Document for 90275 located on the on-line order page. The dimension is misleading until you look at the Technical Document.
Are these parts for the Woodsmith steamer trunk available in solid brass? I found that brass plating wears off in a couple of years.

BEST ANSWER: I mounted the brass plated hardware on a trunk I built 16 months ago and the plating has not worn off yet. As to whether they are available in solid brass, I don't have any information. I imagine the people at Rockler are better able to a swerve this question. Good luck. George H.
How far outside the trunk do these protrude? I need to have the trunk fit inside a luggage rack so I need to know this in order to scale the outside dimensions of the trunk.
Robert T on Jul 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: 3/8 - 1/2". They are beautiful once installed. I installed the chrome/nickel on a dark wood stained hope chest
What is the internal radius of the corner piece? I’m using it in a corner that’s rounded to 3/16” and need to find a brass corner with that same internal radius
DavidCase on Sep 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I had to radius the corners of the trunk I built by around 3/8” to get the corner protectors to sit flush. I did not realize that until after the trunk was stained and varnished and the corners were PERFECT. This required radius in all 8 corners, restraining, and varnishing.

I had to do that overnight since this type of hardware is the last thing to go on and I built the trunk for equestrian gear and we had an event literally the next day. not much sleep...

This was partially my fault since it was the first time I had used this type of corner and did not understand the wood needed to be radiused, and really the first time building something that is basically fine furniture. But suggestion for Rockler: state this in the product description so people can plan ahead.
