Rating:

Reduce splintering and tear-out, and keep small drop-offs from falling between the blade and wheels. These semi-rigid, plastic inserts snap in to replace your old, beat-up throat plate. Ideal for scrollwork, small or fragile parts, and woods prone to splintering, these inserts provide a solid base for your workpiece at very little cost. Will not dull your saw teeth.

Porter Cable 14 inch band saw. the inserts are slightly larger, the depth was slightly short. nothing that wouldn't be taken care of by a Dremel. they work fine.

Good Quality and Fit
I have a 14 inch Shop Fox (W1672) and they are an excellent fit, both in diameter and thickness. I also like the type of plastic used, as it seems to be not brittle enough to blow out, but rigid enough to provide needed support. Seems to be good value and quality, and am happy to have them!

tight fit!
These inserts had a nice tight fit in my vintage 14" Delta Bandsaws. I really like them better than metal ones. The stay in position even without the little tab some of the metal ones have.

Delta Bandsaw insert
Insert fit snugly, and works as expected, even though there is no nib to fit in slot on the left side. I marked it with square, and made initial cut with an hack saw, as I use a very aggressive blade. This calmed the final cut. A touch with a fine soldering point to the "nib" area, will secure the insert.

How is the best way to cut a straight, centered kirf in these inserts
Harold T on Mar 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: with a 4 x 4 inch piece of scrap wood ,draw a vert. and horz. centerline. now drill a 2.5 in hole with a forstner bit about 1/4 in deep, then place insert in hole. with bandsaw cut kirf using the centerline.can be reused.hope this helps.
Will either of these work for a Grizzly 513X2 bandsaw?
Merrick L on Apr 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: the easiest way to figure it out is to measure the overall diameter of your existing insert and match that to the two sizes available from Rockler. The next factor is whether or not the insert is notched. Those two factors will determine which of the Rockler inserts fit as they are available in two different sizes and (as far as I know) only the 2-1/2" insert is notched. After you determine which insert fits your saw, you will know if your saw is based on a Jet design or a Delta model. From there, you will be able to shop for upgrades and replacement parts for your saw based on whether the parts you want are for a Jet or Delta tool, the two major bandsaw companies that everybody builds for. Before I found Rockler, I made my own out of Rosewood or Walnut, an absolutely gorgeous "last resort".
Do either of these work on a older craftsman bandsaw?
A shopper on Jul 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: My bandsaw is an older Rockwell (~40 years old?), and these inserts fit it perfectly. I don't know how similar an older Craftsman may be but if the diameter of your platform opening is the same as that of the inserts, it's worth a try. The original insert for mine was lost, but frankly I like these better.
how thickness are
the inserts?
A shopper on May 31, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I think about 3/16, They are flush with the top of my Band saw table.
will these work on a model #14 rockwell bandsaw??
robert w on May 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes they work very nicely.
What is meant by 2-3/16" (to lip) and 1-3/4" (to lip)?
David U on Jan 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: David,

The insert rests on a lip in the band saw table. The larger diameter represents the diameter of the hole in the top of the table.

The width of the inner lip, which supports the insert, varies with the manufacturer of the band saw model. Just make sure that the hole through which the blade passes the table is a bit larger than 1-3/4" and you'll have no problems.

If push comes to shove, you can always cut off the inner lip if the inner hole is too small and the insert should fit. I've never had to modify any of the inserts I've used. The biggest inconvenience is cutting the slot in the insert so that it centered.

I had no difficulty in finding the correct inserts from Rockler, and my band saw is nearly 70 years old.

Good luck, and have fun with the saw!

Sincerely,

Matt
New Jersey
will they fit a 14 inch Porter Cable?
steven s on Jan 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Not sure if it will fit a porter cable. I have a Delta band saw 14 in and it fits it perfectly.
Will these work for a Shop Smith bandsaw?
Daniel J on Mar 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: They worked perfectly for my Jet bandsaw, but it depends on the size and depth of the throat opening ledge on your Shop Smith. They aren't very expensive, so it may be worth it for you to order them and see.

I have a older craftsman band saw with 2 3/4 OD insert any idea where i can get zero inserts ??
Loren R on Dec 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I inherited an older band saw about a year ago, and its original insert was missing so I bought a package of these blue plastic inserts at Rockler, cut a notch in through to about the middle, and it works great. The lack of clearance between the insert and the blade also seems to make it cut straighter, less blade-bending. I did have to doctor the lip of the insert a little to fit my saw but that was simple. A custom fit.
Can I get a zero clearance bandsaw insert at 1.375" Dia.?
Willie on Sep 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The catalog has two sizes both saying 2-1/2 Overall diameter, but the diameter to the lip is different. One for a Jet and one for a Delta band saw. If you feel you can sand down the discs to 1.375 it might work. Have you tried going back to the tools manufacturer company?
