Rockler 4-Pc. Dovetail Router Bit Upgrade Set - 8mm Shank

Thicker 8mm shanks help to reduce chatter for tighter fitting dovetails and box joints.

This router bit set features 8mm shanks, which are 25% larger than 1/4" bits. The extra mass in the shank helps to reduce chatter. Ideal for joining case goods, the set includes 1/2" x 14° and 8° dovetail bits, a 5/16" straight bit, and 1/2" to 8mm collet adapter. The straight bit can be used for box joints, or for cutting grooves and dados. Fits all existing Rockler dovetail jigs.

These products that I bought work very very well. My father love this store, so when he past away I inherited a lot of my father's tools they were a lot from Rockler. I've been using a lot of these Jigs and bits on a lot of my projects my dad made very good choices so I wanted to follow in his steps thank you for the product.

Great bits for making tight boxes.
I have bought this set at least 10 times over 6 years and use the larher dovetail bit and straight bit in my Rockler dovetail jig. I do so many dovetails on 3/4" oak, cherry and mahogany for my box pieces that I dedicate a full size router for each bit. Changing bits and resetting depth of cut is wasted time. I have great results, probably because of the thicker 8mm shank. My only complaint is that I never use the smaller dovetail bit, so I would like to stock up on the 2 I do use, and Rockler doesn't sell the straight bit separately: only the dovetail bit.

Great package at a good price.
Rockler bits are guaranteed for life. These bits with an 8mm shank (with 1/2" to 8mm reducer) helps considerably with stability and tear out while making through dovetail joints. Used on a Leigh D4 dovetail jig. The 14 degree bit makes nice sliding dovetail joints.

I used the 14 degree 8mm...
I used the 14 degree 8mm dovetail bit 29961 in this kit to compliment my Rockler dovetail jig 23777. It wasn't until the bit dulled after many, many uses on solid oak drawers I've built for all of my home projects that I went back to another brand at 1/4" thinking it should work the same. It didn't. I realized how truly magnificent the extra width of the shank is. There was a major difference in chatter and the Rockler bit's ability to cut smooth, perfect dovetails every time. I put the other brand 1/4" bit back in its case and ordered three more Rockler bits. I'll never go back.

Good Results!
Had good results with the bits.
Be careful using the provided collet adapter. I wasn't careful and the adapter slipped down into the router and forced me to destroy the router bit to remove.
I have since ordered a proper 8mm collet for my router so this won't happen again.
Cannot seem to find the replacement 5/16 x 8mm bit that got destroyed though. Rocker doesn't seem to have this bit for individual sale?

disappointed
The bit cut fine and with perfect results. Unfortunately the bit tends to stick in the collet spacer. This happened twice and on the second time the bit was damaged in removing it from the collet. Otherwise it is great!

Non-Standard Size Causes Problems
Using a shim on a router bit is always cumbersome. Can you not make this in a standard 1/4" or 1/2" shank?

The 8mm adapter got stuck in my router. any suggestions on getting it out?
Emily G on Feb 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I had the same thing happen to mine. I removed the cinch nut, wrapped the adapter in duck tape, and 'gently' used a pair of pliers on it to work it out. Since the portion you use with the pliers is never in the chuck it won't matter much if it gets scarred up a little. Just don't get to aggressive with it. I'm curious which router you are using. I wonder if its the same. Might actually be a design issue.
Can this set be used with a Leigh D4? Thanks

I have a Rockler Dovetail jig I purchased more then 10 years ago. Will these bits work with that along with the guide bushing that came with it?
