Rating:

Aqua Coat White Wood Grain Filler is a water-based, low-odor gel that fills in the pores of coarse or open grained woods. Once paint is applied, it results in a remarkably smooth surface—a dramatic difference over pieces without pore filler. It's ideal for smoothing out the grain on oak cabinets, ash or mahogany woodwork prior to painting. The fast-drying formula sands and levels quickly.

Features:

  • Dries in just 45-60 minutes for a fast build
  • Easy-to-apply, easy-to-sand and easy-to-clean-up
  • Non-flammable and low-odor
  • Can be tinted with water-soluble colorants or dyes
  • Can be thinned with water and cleans up with water
  • Minimal shrinkage

Easy to use
This was a great product and easy to use. This was my first time using it. I put 3 coats on an oak vanity and it turned out smooth and beautiful.

This item is very easy to apply, it has the perfect consistency to use on my kitchen cabinets (it doesn't dry too quickly like epoxy putty, but doesn't fill holes as well as it's much thinner but dries in 30-60 minutes) , and sands to an extremely smooth finish. It's also easy to clean up after use, just soap and water.

I've been using this on my oak cabinets which are being painted white. So far the cabinets look good.

Try to fill grain in oak cabinetry, the face boards. If works well, may not make new doors but will do the old doors.

I note that this product takes two to three coats. How much do I need per square foot of finished surface?
Larry D on Jan 22, 2019
BEST ANSWER: 1 pint is enough to use on a vanity or a small kitchen with 15 doors and drawers.

Can this be used to “pickle” oak for a white tinted finish?

BEST ANSWER: Yes.
Can you apply this over oak cabinets that have already been primed with an oil based primer?
Stephen K on May 13, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I looked at the Aqua coat website. It indicates you can apply the grain filler as long as the previous coat is cured per the manufacturer of the paint or lacquer. Scuff sand with 220 grit sandpaper. You can then apply 1-2 coasts of the grain filler as instructed and prime and paint once again.
