Blumotion Hinge Adapter, Compact

Allows doors to close gently and silently.
Item #
90% of 100

Tired of the jarring sound of banging cabinet doors? Your doors will close gently and silently with the new BLUMOTION soft-close hinge adapter system. The Compact installs on the hinge side of the cabinet for use with both full and partial overlay doors. For optimums BLUMOTION effect, one BLUMOTION Hinge Adapter should be installed for most applications. Tall or heavy doors may require an additional adapter. Trial application recommended. Use a Phillips or POZI screwdriver to adjust the contact point in or out (+5/-5 mm). Adjust out for larger, heavier doors or in for smaller, lighter doors.

Make old cabinets seem new
So easy to install, and they work great. One screw each. Thought the price was a little high when purchasing, but now I have no regrets.

Woodworking Experience:
save the doors and your sanity
My cabinet doors have springs to help them stay closed, but had no soft close feature. This makes it all to easy to accidentally let the doors slam if you are not constantly vigilant. I tried exercising care and teaching the kids and others, but ultimately tried these as a retrofit on existing cabinets. They are reasonably priced, install easily, and do the job. It is an extra piece of hardware that does show, but is not too obtrusive.

Woodworking Experience:
Very happy witht these.
I purchased these because the inset hinge installation template does not work on the soft close hinges and my wife wanted soft close doors.

The added cost was a wash so it didn't cost any more than if I bought the self close.

Works as advertised! Definitely pre-drill holes for screws and on narrow cabinets it helps to have a flexible drill shaft.

What is there an adapter for a partial overlay? There can't be much if any weight difference, I don't understand. Longer screws for a partial???
Glenn on Jan 25, 2017
Can these be used on drawers too or doors only?
Glenn on Jan 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This item is used to 'soft close' cabinet door with self-closing hinges (no slamming shut).
I'd recommend self-closing drawer slides for you. I used them in my kitchen remodel and they're very easy to install.
do they fit rabbeted doors?
Neal C. on Jun 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Neal, I am assuming you mean 3/8" inset doors? It would depend on how the adapter is mounted (behind the face frame) and the strength of the 3/8" self closing hinge. The manufacturer should be able to provide more information and recommendations on using it for this application.
Are these made of metal ? I'm reading feedback on others that are made of plastic and they fail over time.
Jeremy P on Oct 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The body is metal. The plunger is plastic. The spacer (if needed) is plastic. But it’s all very solid and well made. Haven’t had any fail and I have about 50 in my house for about 5 years now. I would hesitate to order more if I needed to.
Can these be used on either side of the door? I have some doors with hinges on the right and some with hinges on the left, so I would need to put them on both sides, depending on which side the hinge is on.
Ervin K on Feb 8, 2016
The blumotion soft close hinge adapter can be mounted on any inside corner of any face frame cabinet. Because they are designed for inside corners you can mount them on either the top or bottom/ left or right (you just always mount them on the hinge side of cabinet).
The instructions are kinda vague, but after one has looked at the adapter; you'll be an old pro in no time.
Assuming you need self-closing hinges for these to work? I don't notice my kitchen cabinet doors closing on their own all that much.
poeticchampions on Oct 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: yes your hinges must have some type mechanism that pulls them tight against cabinet. The adapter is only a dampening device that slows it down so it will not slam
Do these work on full inset doors?
A shopper on Jul 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: They could but you would need to add a spacer block on the inside of the cabinet frame so the Bluemotion adapter would be further inside the face frame. The inset door would just contact the adapter further inside the cabinet than it would on a full overlay door. Hope this helps.
I have a three hinge door that is about 52 inches tall and 32 wide. Do I need two of these or does one work?
Peter on May 21, 2015
I would use (2) because the door is larger. put one on top & on on bottom of hinge side of door. Make sure that the placement of the soft-close mechanism doesn't get in the way of hinges or normal door operation.
Install is easy, should take you all of 10 minutes
Will this work with external hinges?
Ricky B on Feb 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: My cabinets have the hinge on the inside face but the simple way these soft close adapters work, I believe they would work well with a door with external hinges also.
I want the soft close effect but I do not want to replace my existing hinges. Is this the next best solution to already new cabinets?
Norman on Jan 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: absolutely I installed on all my kitchen cabinet doors they work perfectly as advertised
Do these work on doors where you can see the door hinge when closed?
J K on Jul 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: While I have not used these on that type of hinge, I don’t see how the hinge function would effect the operation of the slow closer. However, if your hinges are NOT self closers these blumotion may stop the door from closing when it contacts the door and then the door will remain there partially ajar. Hinges need to be self closing.
Is only one needed? Or should these be bought in pairs?
fidodidojohn on Jul 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I only installed one per covered. I will say that they work nicely for a few months but after time they won't retract so the cupboard won't slam but it also won't close completely. It'll just get about an inch from closure and stay there.
What closed the door and keeps it closed?
Gregg M on Mar 18, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The cabinet door hinges must be spring loaded for the Blumotion adapters to work correctly. You can test your cabinet door hinges by opening the cabinet door about 2 inches and letting go of the door. If the door returns to the closed position without any assistance, the hinges are spring loaded and the Blumotion adapters will work. If the door remains in the slightly open position, the adapters will not work.
What can I use for an interior door at my office? Not a cabinet....
Beth P on Aug 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm not sure it's appropriate for an entry door. You can try but it might be a little undersized .
