What is measured for 1/2 inch cove bit?
A shopper on May 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The radius of the shoulder from pilot to edge diameter. Depth of cut and shank diameter.
When it says to use a 5/8" cove bit, what does that mean? I am new to using cove bits
Ron B on Jun 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: it refers to the maximum depth of the cove in the wood after routing the wood (ie from the bottom of the bit to the top of the bit, excluding the bearing)
I am new to making doors. I need to make a raised cove panel door. The rails and stiles 3/4" thick and I would assume the panel would need to be 5/8" thick. I purchased the rockler cove horizontal raised panel but. 2 1/2" x 5/8" height. After messing around and trying to make the bit work, I really don't believe I chose the correct bit. Any help???!
Tim S on Nov 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I was asked to address your question or problem. I believe the problem is a cove bit will cut a perfect radius. Therefore there is no flat surface for the door panel to slide in the stiles and rails. You need to used a raised panel door router bit that will cut a profile with a 1/4" or so flat lead in to fit in the door frame. There are a number of different profiles available.
