Prevents unnecessary damage to your dust collector by separating out large wood chips.

Item #
94% of 100

Separate large wood chips out of your system before they reach your dust collector. One pair of plastic elbow and coupler components serve as infeed and outfeed points when you install them on either end of a box, bin or other fixture you wish to use to catch large wood chips. This system will save wear and tear on your dust collector, and you won't have to empty it as often. The two coupler components fit standard 4" dust hose as well as the Dust Right® Handle system (sold separately).

Cut dust vacuum noise coming thru your hose in half
My Jet 1 1/2 HP dust vacuum was so noisy that I moved it to a shed next to my shop. Still noise from the hose at my lathe was 92 dB measured in a meter. I purchased a fiber barrel from Grainger Supply and with your nozzles put it in line between the Jet and my lathe. Now the dB meter reads 53. I can hear again.

Woodworking Experience:
Works like a charm
this set of components installed in a 30 gal plastic drum take all of the large and small particulates out before the actual dust collector. this is a must have for any shop using something larger than a shop vacuum.

Great addition to my dust collection.
Works great. Bought a 32 gallon trash can with a locking lid from Lowes. Easily mounted the adapters in 10 minutes. My dust collector now only collects dust, not chips.

Worked as advertised.
The dust separator works really well. It sure will save changing bags as often. Easy to assemble too. I used a cardboard drum with locking lid.

Woodworking Experience:
A Great Product
I have used a Jet dust collector for several years. The collection bag is much too small and very difficult to remove when full. The dust separator was easy to assemble. I had a plastic barrel on hand and cut a plywood top for the barrel. The barrel now traps almost all chips and dust and it is easy to empty. The barrel also has a large capacity that supports running a planer.

Where can i purchase the round cardbrd container you preview in your dust collection ad ?
Robert O on Sep 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Use a search engine and search on fiber drums and you'll will see several sources. One source has 10 - 75 gallon drums available.
Will a plastic trash can with a tight fitting lid work as a separator for chips?
Cheryl D on Oct 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I would use steel. Plastic can collapse.
Downloadable diagram doesnt make sense.. Second option for dust barrel shows both ports as outlet completing a circle within.. While in reality, both ports are not outlets, one port is an inlet and the other is an outlet.. Can someone please clarify this as I do not see the recommended position of ports able to produce a natural circular stream? It would seem the best placement would be to have one port directly behind the other both facing away?
Jonas A on Apr 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Suggest you google "Thien baffle". I bought this set to use ONE of them to make this style of two stage system. Much better that the plans you are talking about, and not that much more work.
Does the debris container need to be as air tight as possible in order for the suction to be effective?
Courtney W on Sep 24, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The debris container needs to be as air tight as possible. If not, it will cause the dust collection system to be less efficient. The dust control device only moves a certain amount of air/minute and any leak in the container results in some of that air movement being dissipated via the leak.
Where flexible hoses are attached to the outside of the box Item #: 34367?
jorge humberto s on Mar 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If you refer to the free plans directions are included. Draw your pattern for the hose usong your own supplied fitting. If you use the lid with the large can idea then trace the line for the output in the same manner. Many combinations of hose are possible so the hole size is determined by you. Hope this helps. Mine works great attached to a 4 inch system i have also used my 2 and 1/4 vac with it with smaller fittings.
Would this work with 6" hoses, couplerscouplers, etc?
Toby H on Mar 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: These are 4" fittings, you would need 4" to 6" adapters.
Am I correct that this works well as it is and does not require a Thein Baffle?
John on Jun 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: That is correct, using dust right dust separator components will allow you to build your cyclone. just add the bucket and drill the holes on top and connect the hoses to your vacuum and you are good to go. It will take about 1/2 hr. The dust right is a cyclones and Cyclone also add more resistance (SP), which would especially be a consideration in a lower HP system.
Will this work with a standard 5hp shop vac with 2/1/4 hose till i get a real dust collector?
Christopher on Jun 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi Chris, I don't see any reason for it not to work, however it was made to be used with 4 inch hoses, so you might have a hard time finding the right adaptors, from your 2 1/4 hose, to 4 inch, specially since those adaptors are funny, in terms measurements are sometimes internal, sometimes external, a perfect adaptor for a hose, does not always work with another conector, of course you can always fix it with duct tape, now my advice would be, buy a Oneida dust deputy for your shop vac, it works great, and you will want to keep it in your vac even after you get your dust collector, it's kind of expensive, but saves you tons in vac filters, and work, and use this product once you buy your dust collector.
I am using a 55 gallon barrel and it is collapsing. What am I doing wrong?
Brian B on Jan 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I use a steel drum and have never had a problem. The rigidity of the vessel or drum is most likely your problem.
I am using a 55 gallon barrel and it is collapsing. What am I doing wrong?
Brian B on Jan 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: this is designed to use a 30 gal cardboard barrel and mine works as advertised. If your barrel is collapsing that would suggest that you have a constriction on the inlet side. If you have a powerful dust collector and it is pulling more air out of the barrel than is coming in, I can see a plastic barrel collapsing. That suggests your inlet is too small (or a kinked hose, or something to restrict the air) and the barrel is too weak.
Will this work with a narrow drum? The one I'm considering is only about 12 inches in diameter, but tall (14 gallon capacity), which fits my space better. However, I don't know if the cyclonic action will actually work well in this configuration. I'd appreciate any input!
Steven S on May 1, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Steven, my advice is to find something wider, if you can. To start, 12 inches does not give you a lot of room to mount the in- and out-takes. Also, 14 gal. is sort of small for powerful 4" system. If the container is cheap and disposable, you can try it, but I'm afraid you'll be disappointed in the results. Let us know how it works out.
I'm using this with the 30 gallon fiber drum (as pictured in the Rockler photo). It works great, but I have a low powered dust collector (about 600 CFM) that's aging badly. Thinking of upgrading to the new Rockler 1250 CFM unit. My question is if this would create way to much flow for the separator components --- i.e. collapse the drum, or suck the chips right through??? Can anybody predict if this might be a problem?
GEORGE K on Apr 16, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I use this system with a fiber drum and a 1000cfm Delta dust collector and have had no problems. The fiber drum should hold up fine and the heavy dust should go into the barrel. Finer dust may come through to your filer bag.
Will this work with a dw 735 planer?
Lenny on Apr 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: If the planer has a 4" port, it should work with this separator. We use a large drum for collection, but I have seen box separators working as well.
Can this be converted to 6" inlet and outlet?
Steve F on May 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, with an adapter, but I don't think it would be very effective. It would be easier to build a can with 6" fittings.
Would this work well with a 20 gallon drum (21" Height, 21" Diameter) or is it too small? It will be attached to a dust collector with 660 CFM which has 4" dust ports. I don't mind if I have to empty more frequently but wanted to make sure it performs well.
John2018 on May 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: That is what I'm using and it works well, it is much easier to deal with than a 55 gal. drum
Im assuming this is designed to work with a 55 gallon drum. However, i dont have enough space (or need) for something that big. Would it work equally well with something smaller... perhaps in the 10-25 gal range?
Jim R on Apr 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: yes it will still work
How deep is the threaded flange? Will it go through 3/4 inch plywood with enough threads?
Paul A on Nov 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The short answer is "YES". I used a 55 gallon metal drum. I made a top from 3/4" plywood and mounted these into it. It works fine and collects most of the sawdust. My theory was that the 55 gallon drum is much taller than the cardboard drums, therefore farther for the sawdust to fall and not get sucked up by the outlet. Just make the cover a bit larger than the diameter of the drum. Rout a 3/8" to 1/2" dado for the drum to fit into to make a good seal.
What effect does this have on CFM ? If the Dust Collect side produces 500 CFM how much vacuum loss is expected on the separator input side to the tool ?
Spike E on May 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Zero or very small loss. In the long run it probably helps because you end up with less stuff in the bag so there is more bag area open to allow air flow. I only have a 1/2 HP system and it works great.
What dust right connectors will I need to make 90 degree bends out of the top?
Tomas F on Feb 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You can use a 4 inch coupler to 4 inch elbow or a small section of 4inch plastic hose with hose clamps.
