Fine measuring when planning exact wood.
This little unit slipped right on to my De Walt Planner. It is very accurate when centered and put on right.

I would not want to be without it since i purchased it.

Perfect measurements with Wixey
This product works fantastic. I attached it permanantely to my Dewalt DW735 planer. I would not recommend using the double sided tape. A bit of advice, if you're going to permanently attach it, I would get it exactly in place and then clamp it before drilling the holes so it doesn't move on you. But the most important thing that makes this so good is that the measurments are on the money! I have an expensive pair of digital calipers and it confirmed the measurements were correct. The procedure to calibrate this product was extremely easy. I also love the fractions on the right side of the screen in additon to the decimal measurements. Uses a regular battery and has an on/off switch. Now for a seperate issue which is not really a review of the product but instead, how it came. There was sawdust inside, the double sided tape was not sticky and the "included battery" was missing. I'm not too please about that but luckily everything works fine.

Boguht for my DW735. It was a little rough installing but is a game changer in planing. Watch some of the installation videos people have uploaded to youtube. They'll help out a lot more.

Portable planer digital read out
Not sure if this is what you want to hear, but.... This is the 3rd one of these gauges I have purchased. The first 2 lasted maybe 2 years each and then wouldn't hold calibration. Replacing battery or batteries didn't cure problem. Third time a charm?

This review is based upon Model wr510 type 2 and installed on Ridged surface planer. The instructions that came with the planer is a little small, so my suggestion is go to Wixey's web site and through Acrobat Reader print out a full page instructions. Now for the review: After removal of 2 screws from the pointer than reinstall with double washer. Problem 1: the two original screws slips through the double washer; solution: use small washers in between double washer and screw head. It was suggested by the instructions to drill into the holes from which the screws came from (the pointer). Best not to do since it is part of the machine (just a suggestion). Problem 2: It is stated that "Loosely attach the lever using the m6 bolt and hex nut followed by lining up the top of readout case to match the planers height setting and then tighten screw. Then the following tighten all screws and check for free movement of the scale." If scale binds, loosen and re-tighten screws or carefully bend brackets. My suggestion and it is only my suggestion and was done on my machine, bought M6 screw about an inch long with a couple of m6 washers and placed them in between "the lever bracket", no bending needed. Problem 3: it mentioned to plane down a board to what ever thickness and mark on that board as go to place for your caliper, (again my opinion, not consistant for thickness). Solution: use brass bars that have known thicknesses, this will give more exact measurement and consistancy. Problem 4: if a readout gives a negative number that is ok but when planning down to desired thickness can be confusing. Solution; place one of those brass bars, example 1/2" between the foot fot frame and rounded end of the scale and press and hold for about 3 sec. to set to zero, remove brass bar and let scale rest on the foot of the frame. That measurement will show a positive 1/2". That new measurement will be your go to as starting point to plane down a board to thickness as needed. Also, the suggestion in the instructions as an option was to make the scale permanent by drilling holes into machine and using the screws as provided. My opinion is not to do that because if down the line you wish or remove that digital scale and use the original rule as provided on the machine will now have to holes in that ruler. Please remember, these were only suggestion and my experience with the Ridgid planer I have. Hope these suggestions help.

Thickness planer digital readout
Installation on a Dewalt model 733 was fairly easy however I would not rely on only the double stick tape for mounting; I also used the self tapping screws. The unit works quite well but have not yet used it extensively so can't comment further.

Piece of junk won't hold calibration
Bought this a couple of months ago to put on Dewalt 735 planer. Won't hold calibration, values change randomly from the thickness that was set. Useless if it won't accurately indicate the thickness

To make accurate repeated boards
C S on Jun 16, 2019
I am tired of guessing the height of my planer blades. The sliding pointer just isn't accurate enough for these tired eyes and it seems it doesn't hold calibrations that well.

I have an early 70's 12" belsaw planer. Will this work on it? Being that the bed rises and not the curtterhead?
Ronnie F on Oct 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I belong to the Woodworkers club House They have a planner where the bed rises the have one mounted on it. It works very well. It is right on size when planning. In fact the operator is required to measure the piece before putting it in the machine. Thenadjust the thickness to the board as a starting point. I have one mounted on my own Dewalt planner very useful. Ihope this information is useful. Gramps
