Freud® LU87R Industrial Thin Kerf Rip Saw Blades

Item #
GRP16429_1
Rating:
98% of 100

This blade gives new life to underpowered table saws and radial arm saws because the thin kerf does not require much horsepower. The Perma-SHIELD® coating helps this blade pull 1/3 less on the saw, which translates into over 33% more cutting power. The ideal working range is from 3/4" to 2-3/4" thick.

Features:
  • The Perma-SHIELD® coating covers the blade plate and cutting edge in a protective layer, reducing heat build-up
  • Perma-SHIELD® blades resist binding in large volume cutting, reducing subsequent blade warp
  • The coating lubricates the blade, allowing it to spin freely, and eliminates pitch and debris build-up on the blade
  • Positive hook angle for fast cutting and easy feeding in production applications
  • Thin kerf requires less power and allows for faster feed rate
  • Perma-SHIELD® Non-Stick Coating is a state-of-the-art coating formulation that is superior to any today, and will withstand the toughest woodworking applications
  • Like Silver I.C.E.™, Perma-SHIELD® eliminates pitch and debris build-up reducing down time for cleaning
  • Features Ti-Co™ Hi-Density Carbide Ripping Blend for maximum performance
  • Ships directly from the manufacturer.
  • Must be shipped within 48 Contiguous United States.
  • Estimated Delivery time: 10 business days.
  • 15% restocking fee on all returned merchandise.
  • Please call customer service before returning product.

Fantastic blade
I was considering buying a new table saw because I thought mine was getting to ‘wimpy’ for me, but after I put this new blade on, it cuts like a dream

Think Kerf is like increase horsepower for old saws.
Started using these blades several years ago. Have a 1960 era Craftsman Radial Arm saw that is under-powered compared with today's more efficient motors. This blade increase my capacity to rip material that otherwise I could not rip. Also, very easy to sharpen with a Dremel tool using their diamond coated disk (tool mounted in a jig).

Smooth cutting
Smoother and cuts with less noise and effort than my old blade. I wish I had changed to this blade before I started this last project. Less dust too.

Square Kerf Blade
I use this blade for special use. When I need a flat bottom, square kerf like cutting grooves, tenons, box joints, I use this blade. It is a lower priced alternative. I am a Freud fan, I use only Freud blades, and have for years. I've used Amana and Forest. Freud blades cut just as well as the higher priced blades and they are readily available. Also, Freud gives me many more choices in teeth count per blade.

Works extremely well. Cuts smoothly and with little resistance, which is important when you have a 110v table saw. I cut 1 1/2" solid oak effortlessly with this blade.

I have the Premier Fusion blade and it is very good for both crosscut and ripping of up to one inch oak, but bogs down when ripping thicker material. I decided to get a dedicated ripping blade for the thicker oak that I use and am confident in the Freud design.

how thick is the kerf?
how thick is the blade?
A shopper on Jun 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Kerf is 3/32", which it says right on the blade.
With out micing up the blade I would guess if is 1/16"
Can these blades rip wood 6 inches thick?
Yadram L on Mar 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: If your question is about the 10 blade, the answer is no, not in one pass! You would need two make a pass on one side and then flip the piece end over end and make another pass without moving the fence. Make sure the blade is sharp to prevent overloading you motor. A quick way to determine the max thickness you can rip, take the saw blade diameter, subtract the diameter of the blade diameter and divide that number by 2.

SawStop 10'' Jobsite Saw
BEST ANSWER: Nathan, the coating is not going to affect the safety system. I use Freud blades in my SawStop.
Are the teeth flat ground?
Gary L on Mar 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Visually, tops appear flat. Latest Freud catalog on page 19 shows 10" blade has top (bevel angle T) flat at zero degrees. Actual use confirms the nice flatness of bottom of kerf.
Hope this helps.
Are the teeth flat ground?
Gary L on Mar 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the teeth are flat ground. With a 1/2 HP motor on the table saw it rips easily and with a clean cut.
