Freud LU91R Thin Kerf Sliding Compound Miter Saw Blades

Item #
GRP16428_1
Rating:
98% of 100

This thin kerf industrial blade provides a superior finish cut with sliding compound miter saws. The 5° negative hook angle helps prevent the blade from being too aggressive and pushes the work piece down and towards the fence. Thin kerf blades remove less material than standard carbide blades, thus requiring less horsepower to produce equally good results.

Features:
  • The Perma-SHIELD® coating covers the blade plate and cutting edge in a protective layer, reducing heat build-up
  • Perma-SHIELD® blades resist binding in large volume cutting, reducing subsequent blade warp. The coating lubricates the blade, allowing it to spin freely, and eliminates pitch and debris build-up on the blade
  • Also available with the economical Silver I.C.E™ coating
  • Negative hook angle minimizes climbing for better control
  • Thin kerf requires less power and allows for faster feed rate
  • Perma-SHIELD® Non-Stick Coating is a state-of-the-art coating formulation that is superior to any today, and will withstand the toughest woodworking applications. Like Silver I.C.E.™, Perma-SHIELD® eliminates pitch and debris build-up reducing down time for cleaning
  • Features Ti-Co™ Hi-Density Carbide Crosscutting Blend for maximum performance
  • Anti-vibration design

Under promised, over delivered.
Quiet, effortless, cuts straight as a laser. What else do you want in a saw blade?

Don’t waste your money on other blades
Currently running this blade in my DEWALT compound miter. Cuts are by far way cleaner than any blade that you would purchase at the big box stores. I have been slowly switching all my saws over to the industrial blades and quality has gone up all the way around. And the best part is they can be sharpened so in the long run it’s economically practical to be running these blades.

Freud blades are great!
I like the blade just fine, it replaces another Freud on my sliding compound miter saw, and I am having the first one re-sharpened so I expect to get even more life out of it. Freud blades do what they promise: cut straight and smooth, easy to line up, last for a long time. I do have a problem with Rockler charging $9.99 to ship my blade and then having the horribly unreliable US Post office finish the delivery, Then I am asked if I want to "upgrade" my shipping for more money to get it one or two days earlier (what gall!). I'll look for another woodworking site for my next purchase.

one of the few places I can find these blades
this was the only place I could find 12 inch blades for my old Dewalt that is still going strong. Even Amazon did not carry them and the price was not outrageous

Great blade for my compound miter saw. Smooth cross cut and the -5* blade angle prevents kick back

I have a furniture-maker friend that recommended these blades for my hobbyist tools. I'd also heard a lot of good things about Freud blades.

Previous experience with Freud blades has shown that they are excellent. This one is for my sliding miter saw to replace a Freud blade that I have used for years.

After researching thin kerf saw blades that provide excellent cuts Freud seemed to be the best for the cost.

I read your primer "Saw Blades 101" and decided you would stock the best miter saw blades. I can't wait to see if this blade is what it is cracked up to be.

Bought a crosscut blade for the miter saw, not realizing you needed the "correct" blade for the sliding action. It cuts funny, and feels like it binds. So I'll buy this blade and it should work better since that's what it's for.

Got tired of my radial arm saw pulling into the piece. This blade, with a -5 degree tooth angle, tames the radial arm saw.

I needed a blade with negative tooth angle for a 12inch radial arm saw, and read the article on your site about choosing the right blade, for particular applications.<br /> Price, quality and the brand name of the blade, helped me choose this blade

I have been a big fan of freud blades as a box maker. I currently have an old blade which I use for cutting mitre corners but unfortunately it is passed its use by date and is not cutting as cleanly as I would like despite being sharpened many times. If this blade is as good as other freud blades that I have used it will do the job for many years to come.
GEOFFREY F on May 6, 2015

Does Freud offer a sharpening service for there used blades?
DON A on Mar 4, 2016
I have a 12" compound sliding miter saw. All the blades I have bought for it seem to veer slightly as I make a cut. Especially through 1x material. I saw a Freud blade at your Rocklin store that the body of the blade, not the teeth, seemed to be really close to 1/8 of a inch. How does one tell the thickness of the blade body and can I buy the bushing size to hold that thicker blade on a Bosch 12" compound slide? I have a 14" Makita chop box I had the same problem and Bill Nemy from solved this same problem so I know it can be done. Can you help me find the products I need to remedy my problem.
Thanks
RS

BEST ANSWER: Try slowing down when cutting let the blade pull you through the material?
What is the width of the kerf?
Roger C on Dec 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Measuring with calipers the tooth is 0.100". Across two teeth it sometimes measures 0.101" so a variance of 1/1000th of an inch. HOWEVER - I'm not using it to cut wood, I'm mostly cutting a hard machinable plastic with this blade. And while cutting I sometimes sense some wobble. This would work better with stiffeners.
Re 12 in. Freud, Item 29024. Is the arbor 5/8 inch or 1 inch?
William M on Aug 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: 1 inch
Can this be used to cut plastic? I often switch back and fourth between wood and HDPE pipe... I hate changing out blades so i am looking for something that will cut both without dulling
Whitewolf on Mar 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I've used mine for PVC, only isssue is that it tends to plug up my dust collection port due to longer string like cuttings
I have a 12" DeWalt silding miter saw that I use a lot to cut PT lumber especially 6x6. What is the best blade for this application? Thanks
