These blanks are cut from select Jatoba heartwood, which ranges in color from an orange-brown to a dark reddish brown, occasionally with lighter streaks. With exposure to sunlight, the color tends to darken. Though it can blunt tools more quickly than usual because of its density, Jatoba glues, stains, turns, and finishes well. It has become a popular choice for wood flooring, where it is commonly called ''Brazilian Cherry.'' Its natural, mature color resembles the color of domestic cherry, once the latter is aged and/or stained.
