Nice jointer
Heavy, solid, easy to use. My old joiner was ok, yet this one is much, much better. Smoothe, easy off/on, dust collection works great. Wish I had bought it sooner.

Exactly what I wanted
I needed a jointer to complete my wood shop. I already had a Jet band saw that I am very happy with. So when I saw this jointer on sale I decided to purchase it. It gives me a big-little machine for my shop. What I mean by that is the jointer has a nice long bed for the larger pieces I work with but on a mobile base rolls away to give me the space I need for large projects.

I have had only a few days but putting through its paces it done everything I needed from a jointer.

A useful addition to the home workshop
Pros:
Thoughtfully packaged; readable instruction manual
Well- finished (Not Sawstop quality, but good enough)
Parts likely to be stressed are all iron or steel.
Fairly easy to assemble (2 person lift for machine body)
Produces a very flat board.

Worked as advertised out of the box . No adjustments were necessary.

Quirks: Guard design limits width of thinner boards. (This may be a safety feature.)

Cons: Doesn't include mobile base--this should be standard equipment. A Portamate 2500 works well with this machine if you add a plywood floor.

Some of the locking screws have plastic knobs.

I use bought my Jet 6" jointer last summer to prepare boards for resawing and book matching. The results are quite flat and the edges are square. So far I've no complaints beyond a chipped blade. Overall I'm happy with my purchase.

Very happy, first jointer
Very nice unit. It is my first jointer, and have only run a few hundred feet of board through it, so my review is based on that. Feels like it's a well built machine, knives came factory set (dang-near dead-on) which was awesome. Put it together with my father-in-law iin about 2 hours. Much easier with two people when it comes to putting the belt on and lifting the unit around. I'd recommend getting a mobile base too.
I'm very impressed with functionality and craftsmanship of it. This is my new favorite tool in the shop and I feel confident already using it,well engineered, and it seems like it will last a long time. 5 year warranty doesn't hurt either!

Good quality that you would expect from Jet
The machine does what it is supposed to do and does it well as could be expected at this price point. It did not buy the spiral blade as the extra $300 did not seem to be worth it given the amount of use that I have.

Great product at a fair price
I purchased this jointer several years ago and, after wrestling with learning how to use it properly (put all the downward pressure on the outfield table and make thin cuts) this has become one of the best tools in my shop. Place roller supports flush with the table several feet in front and behind the unit and handle 8-9' stock with ease!

I have been looking for a jointer that would produce the precision I wanted yet would fit in my shop and not break the bank. I own other Jet tools and have been very happy with them.

1) I've owned a Jet dust collector for five years and it has always performed reliably; presumably this machine will too.
2) Acceptable on-line reviews.

? What's the difference between a joiner and a planner.
Vicki F on May 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The jointer was named for squaring and flattening stock to be joined. It is also commonly referred to as a surface planer. A common planer is usually referred to as a thickness planer and is used to reduce the thickness of stock. The sequence is to flatten one side of the stock and then square and flatten one edge of the stock with the jointer. Then cut down the other side of the stock with the planer to create a parallel flat side. Then cut the remaining edge usually using a table saw.
