This is my first piece of Jet equipment and I am not disappointed. Outstanding piece of equipment. Would highly recommend it.
This is my first jointer. I was trying to decide between a bench top model and the free-standing model. Very happy I spent the extra money to get this model. Very easy to set up, coplanarity was good out of the box, up and running in 2 hours. Helical head gives outstanding results and I would recommend it to anyone. Adjustments are easy. Jointer is built very solid as the fence is cast iron as are the tables so everything stays aligned. The one disappointment is the base did not come with casters. I put all equipment on casters so I built my own platform with casters.

I have only used it twice so far, but it is much better than my old straight blade jointer. I would highly recommend this jointer.

I bought the Jet 6” Spiral...
I bought the Jet 6” Spiral Jointer in Feb 2013 to replace an existing jointer. My 15 year old, Taiwan built, 6” Delta never really lived up to expectations. It was only last year that I figured out a major part of the problem was a slight dip in the out-feed table. It must have come from the factory that way and I never realized it. When the Jet arrived, that was the first thing I checked out. To my delight, both tables were perfectly flat. I was extremely anxious to try out the new Jet Spiral cutter because I only found one review for the 6” Jet compared to myriad reviews for a particular competing brand. I had zeroed in on the Jet unit because I was not keen on the other brand name and the shearing action of the Jet compared to the chopping action of the others made all kinds of sense to me. I had read conflicting accounts of the performance of Spiral Cutter systems in general. Some praised them highly, while others panned them for leaving streaks in the surface. I almost did not buy it because of these reports. I am finally using it on a project that has tested its capabilities to the max. I am making a total of four 18” wide x 78-1/2” high x 1-3/8” thick, Oak, frame and panel doors. The pleasure of placing two 80” long x 4” wide jointed surfaces together for an absolute perfect fit the entire length is almost too much to take after all the years of frustration using the Delta unit. The jointed surfaces are flawless. I love the fact that by simply slowing down the feed rate, I can cut against the grain and still get a perfect surface. Very often when jointing the edge of an Oak board, you can’t avoid some "against the grain milling." I see no difference between the cuts with the grain and the cuts against the grain. I also trued up the faces of some 5/4” x 6” x 50” Oak boards in preparation for raised panel glue-ups. After two light-cut passes, they were perfectly flat. Surface looked great. None of the reported mill mark streaks were evident. I used my Wixey digital angle detector to dial in the 90 degree setting for the fence, to create perfectly square edges for the glue-ups I love this Jointer. JET RULES.

This unit is a wonderful piece...
This unit is a wonderful piece of kit. Well built and quite heavy. I check tables and fence for square before every use and have had no need to make any adjustments in almost a year. The helical head is well worth the extra money. It gives smooth clean cuts, even in figured woods like curly and quilted maple. The best part is the end of setting knives.

Less expensive than the Powermatic (same company), smaller base, extra long bed.

I have read the reviews and I know the Jet brand is a cut above the rest.
Carroll K on Jul 18, 2017
Primary use is for making edges smooth for glue-ups, so 6" size is fine. The helical cut head provides better performance, and handles nicks better. The long feedbed allows for easier handling of long pieces of wood.

I noticed when reading a review of the Powermatic helical head the owner said you can't cut rabbets because the cutters don't go all the way to the end of the head. Is this the same with the Jet model have any of you tried it?

Does the machine ship in pieces (broken down) so that I can carry it into my basement?"
Terry W on Nov 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, although all the pieces come in one box. When you take the pieces out, the actual bed will be in one piece (without the fence and the stand), so that'll be the trickiest part to maneuver down stairs.
Does the 6' long bed with helical head use 115volt. In the manual it shows 115 and 230v?
Justin W on Sep 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It can operate as both. It is prewired for 115 but the Manual will show you how to rewire for 230 if needed.
will the shipper bring this package into your garage?
Philip V on May 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The trucker drive parked on the street and rolled the jointer as well as the bandsaw I ordered up and into my garage on one of those manual fork lift rollers. I'm guessing it depends on who you get as a driver.
can one person assemble it, or because of weight does it require 2 people to do so?
David K on Mar 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I was able to do all of it myself except I had my neighbor help me lift the bed onto the stand.

Had he not been available, I was going to suspend one end with a rope a few inches higher than the base and lift the other end.

The great thing was that it was in perfect alignment right out of the box!

Great new addition to my shop.

What is the footprint size of the cabinet base?
Mark B on Mar 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is the exact model I have and mine is exactly 13" X 17 3/8". Hope this helps.
I see 2 versions of this jointer. one has the switch above the bed and with the same model number one has the switch below the bed on the face of the cabinet. can I specify the one I want?
D S on Nov 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: One can put the switch in either location. An arm is included which mounts the switch above the bed. If you want it on the front, leave the arm off and mount the switch on the front of the base.
Can you set the jointer on a mobile base? I ask because of the picture shows the base where it could be fastened to the floor. It flares out.
Dennis Y on Nov 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I was able to put mine on a mobile base where you put in 2x2 hard wood and it had a triangle at each corner where the base sits. The flared out part was only on the 2 sides where the wings of the bed are.
What mobile base is recommended?
Earl T on Sep 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Made my own with metal plate and wheels; works well and fits well to size if machine
Where is this made?
