Love the Long Wood
I really like the look of a long, uninterrupted blank on this pen & pencil. It was easy to turn and assemble. Some have mentioned the difficulty of drilling the long blank needed. I had no problem when I drilled it on the lathe.

full sized.
I wanted to show off as much of the blank I used as possible, uninterrupted with a band, this kit was the best choice for me.
Functionally, it's fine, it's just a basic click pen.

I favor this click pen.
These kits make a nice pen. Prep time for me is a little longer because I do not have a proper size drill bit long enough. I use a long 7mm bit to drill all the way through the blank, then use proper size bit to bore from each end. Works well enough for me.

This hardware set is one of the best I have. Turning it can be a bit tricky but worth the challenge

Easy Kit, looks great
One of the easiest pen kits to put together that I have done. My Cocobolo blank looks great. I also love fat pens, easier to hold. The only challenging part is drilling the very long 4 inch long 3/8 hole in the pen blank, as my drill press doesn't drill all the way. I finished drilling with a hand drill. Another great feature is the click mech is all metal.

Nice pen style overall. The click mechanism is rough and tends to catch/stick about 1 in 10 uses. The more I use it the less it acts up.

I make the pen and pencil as sets. No other pen/pencil allows a significant piece of wood to be displayed. I've used Bocote, Olive, Marblewood and Purpleheart. Each is distinctive and unique. The quality of the works and the ease at finding refills means that the pens will last a long time. The oldest is now 10 years old, and still running and as highly regarded as when first given

How long is the brass tube and wut is od of the brass tube?
Chris F on Jul 8, 2018
What is the finished length of the finished pen & pencil?
William T on Oct 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The finished length of the pen and pencil are different. The pen is 5-5/8 inches (143 mm) from the top of the cap to the end of the nib with the pen tip retracted. (Add 1/16 for the pen tip.) The pencil is 5-7/8 inches (149 mm) from the top of the cap to the pencil tip with no lead showing. (The pencil has a small metal fixed tip that looks like a pen tip.)
How do you change the pen refill without taking the whole thing apart which would be really difficult?
Keith P on Mar 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hey Keith -

The pen tip is a screw on instead of a press on so you can unscrew the tip and replace the ink cartridge.

BEST ANSWER: 0.5 mm
What length is the brass tube?
Suzanne K on Sep 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: i thought i had the correct pen kit, but my longwood has 2- 1" blanks and a 2-1/32 brass blank and is fitted so you can fit a rubber grip on the end....but if you scroll down on the reviews you can see someone wrote that it was 4" long... they may have mis measured because it seems it should be 4-1/32......you may have to drill from both ends or use a predrilled blank if its available........the long length really accents the wood...good luck
