M2 Mesh Face Masks, Safety Green

For woodworkers, the basic paper dust masks with rubber band straps have an annoying drawback: every time you exhale, hot, moist air is forced out of the gaps around the bridge of your nose, and your safety glasses quickly become fogged. RZ M2 Mesh Masks circumvent that problem with dual exhalation valves that direct air down and outward, away from your safety glasses. This package includes the standard F1 filters with active carbon, as well as a 3-pack of HEPA filters, both of which screen out particles down to 0.1 micron. The mesh material is lightweight, comfortable against the skin, and allows cooling air to circulate in areas that don't require filtration, such as the back of your neck. As we all know, a mask only benefits you if you wear it, and with no rubber bands to tangle in your hair or chafe against your neck, you won't hesitate to wear this one.

Features:

  • Mesh material is lightweight, breathable and durable
  • Replaceable filters and washable mesh maximize the life of the mask
  • Dual one-way discharge valves reduce condensation on safety goggles
  • Adjustable nose clip also helps to prevent fogging
  • Adjustable velcro strap provides a comfortable fit—not too tight and not too loose

Package includes a 3-Pack of HEPA Filters, offering 40% better breathability than the standard F1 filter!

With their dual layers of particulate filtration, F2 HEPA filters are capable of trapping particles down to 0.1 microns in size. F2 filters do not feature active carbon, but they offer 40% better breathability than the standard F1 filters.

What Size Mask Should I Buy?

Choosing the correct mask size
To determine the correct mask size for your facial structure, we recommend taking exact measurements using the method described below.
1. Measure from the bridge of your nose to just under your chin. *See guide below. (It may be helpful to have a friend assist you) 2. Use the measurements you have taken and match to the best fit from the below: NOTE: If you are on the bubble based on measurements - refer to weight.

  • Extra Large (XL) - 4.5" - 5.5" | 215lbs +
  • Large (L) - 4" - 4.5" | 125lbs - 215lbs
  • Medium (M) - 3.5" - 4" | Up to 125lbs

Filters are designed to match your chosen mask size, i.e. Extra Large (XL) mask houses an XL filter.
Below is a general guide based on body weight (note that facial measurements are more accurate for ensuring correct fit).
  • Extra Large - 215 lbs +
  • Large - 125 lbs - 215 lbs
  • Medium - Up to 125 lbs

(1) M2 Mesh Face Mask
(2) F1 Filters with Active Carbon
(1) Storage bag

Comfortable
I have tried several masks in the shop. The one previous that i liked was rated for 3 microns. This did not work well for the fine sanding. This is comfortable and has a much higher rating. My new favorite. Plus comes in cool colors!

So much better than the Darth Vader sounding mask
More comfortable, smaller, warmer. More convenient so I don't neglect to put it when when I'm generating dust in the shop.

Easy to use. Nicely adjustable. Nice fit for what feels like greatly reduced breathing of dust.

The mask is very light and comfortable plus with glasses there is no fogging. I would recommend this product to anyone that does woodworking is definitely keeps the dust from breathing in.

Better Than Some, Not As Good As Others
I bought it because I liked the idea of a single strap that attaches low on the head, about at neck level, with a Velcro strap that allows my earing protection to remain in place while putting on or removing the mask.
First, It filters dust as well as any of the typical disposable masks that I've used for decades; better actually, because the fit is much better. My glasses haven't fogged up (yet, it's still summer), and I like the idea of replacing the filter unit, although there are no instructions that tell you how (twist the external exhaust ring and it comes apart, freeing the filter).
The bad news? It's tough to look up when wearing it. The wide strap at the nape of the neck makes it uncomfortable when positioning the head anywhere north of eye-level. And when I tried to reposition it for a better fit at the neck, the seal around my face suffered.
So, until something even better comes along, or I spring for a force-fed unit, I'll keep using it.

Very comfortable and effective. Got it to use while sanding on the lathe, but have been using it for all cutting and sanding operations in the shop.

One Of The Better Masks I've Used
Does its primary job of blocking dust as far as I can tell, but it's still not very comfortable. It uncomfortably restricts breathing with any level of exertion but it hasn't fogged my safety glasses. Maybe that's because the glasses don't fit over the nosepiece. I've never misplaced it (I got the bright green color) and it folds to fit in a pocket. The strap adjusts nicely but is a little too wide and restricts my neck movement. I also like the replaceable filter.

Why did you choose this?

I need a mask that doesn't have straps going over my ears. I will be using it when I mow the yard and in the shop when I am turning or wood working. I wear glasses so it look like it will work better for me. ask back after I use it and I will be glad to let you know how it works out.

I like that this item seems sturdy, and long lasting. Also, I cannot stand dust masks with elastic bands because I wear glasses. This looks like a better idea.

Any idea how the sizes run? S, M, L, and XL doesn't shed a lot of light.
dan r on May 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Be careful.
I followed the directions on measuring which indicated that I needed an extra large. Turned out to be way too big. I actually needed a large. The packaging for the extra large mask says it fits people over 215 lbs.
The manufacturer's website has more information than the Rockler catalog;Google RZmask.
How do I know what sizes to order?
jetwood on Jun 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The third view on the product page is a face...open that and your question is answer. My measurement indicated a large but I purchased the xlarge because I have a full beard - perfect.

ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: When I first tried it on, the Velcro had no stick...I threw it down with some choice expelitives! A while later I looked at it again and discover the loop side had a protective cover that needed to be remove...walla...it works...I like it. I have been around longer than Velcro and I have never encountered this.
Does OSHA consider this a respirator?
David T on Oct 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: In my opinion no, it does not rise to the level of respirator. This item is more of an efficient dust mask. Respirators are typically used in oxygen deficient settings, according to my understanding. For best information, check out the OSHA website. It has good data on this topic.
Whats the diff in filtration between the GVS Elipse and the M2 Mesh? and the breathability/useability? I wear eye glasses and own the GVS Elipse. Interested in the M2 Mesh also. Was wondering if they work better for different purposes.

GVS Elipse P100 Half Mask Respirators
GVS Elipse P100 Half Mask Respirators
BEST ANSWER: I have have used both of these and find the eclipse a much better choice. It has a better seal around the face and because of this, eyeglass fogging is greatly reduced if not eliminated. I wound up throwing the mesh filter mask away because the metal nose piece tore off. In my opinion the eclipse provides better filtration, if for no other reason, because of its better seal. You'll also find it easier to breath because you don't need to pinch the bridge of my nose.
