Mounting your bottle stopper turning blank onto your lathe is easy with this handy mandrel. Once it's mounted, simply remove material until it's flush with the collar of the mandrel for a perfect fit to your bottle stopper (sold separately). Works with the Mini Stainless Steel Bottle Stoppers (#59601, #51189 and #52311 sold separately).

Worked like a champ.
It was very easy to use. Threaded it directly into the wood blank. Made two bottle stoppers. The second got the threads messed up and I epoxied the stopper into the finished product. I would recommend using the mandrel.
Made these using the mini mandrel. It was very easy to use.

Makes life easier
This item works as described. My some has turned 30+ stoppers and still working perfectly. Wen we first purchased Ruth Niles stoppers he was using a 1mt lathe which meant we had to put Niles mandrel in a 4 jaw Chuck now he can easy use his Jacob Chuck and makes life allot easier.

Great product!
Makes the process of finishing "mini" bottle stoppers even easier. I used with 3/8-16 steel threaded inserts and the 3 varieties of "mini" bottle stoppers to create a beautiful finished project. Made for friends who wanted to purchase some as gifts for their family/friends. See photo of most recent projects using this mandrel.

stopper mandrel
I use this to turn butt caps for fishing rod handles. This way the end of the handle has no holes.
This is a great tool to have for turning

Worth While
This mandrel was worth while in using. The only thing I noticed was the treads would strip when using a very hard exotic wood. Solved the problem by treading the blank on with a piece of paper towel. This gave it a little more bite when treading on the blank and there were no issues going forward with the turning.

I plan to make improved bottle stoppers and the threads on the old stoppers was only ¼"x20 so need a new mandrel. Rockler mandrels are of good quality

can this mandrel cut the threads or do i need to buy a separate thread cutter?
Andrew A on Oct 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It would be best to use a tap to cut the threads first. This works best in very hard woods, and with a very sharp(new) tap.
I have also used threaded inserts in softer woods.
What size drill bit should be used?
Sal M on Feb 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Tap drill size for 3/8-16 is 5/16. Drill hole to 5/16" then use a 3/8" 16 tap to make threads.
Does this work with the silicone stoppers?
Danielle S on Oct 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, the hole needed for the silicone stopper is 9mm which converts to 23/64. The hole for the mandrel is 5/16 or 20/64. You would have to re-drill the hole to accept the dowel. I use a length of 9mm drill rod with a flat on it to make a pin chuck when I turn these. I have also used the threaded tube used in for lamps as a chuck. Just buy a 4" tube and hold it in a Jacobs chuck in the headstock. Slight pressure with a live center in the tail stock will help.
