Manhattan Ballpoint Pen Hardware Kit - Black Titanium w/ Gold

Item #
90% of 100

With its elegant profile, superb balance, and smooth action, the Manhattan Pen has earned its place as a favorite among pen turners. It's a single twist pen - one turn of the barrel exposes the ballpoint tip. The Manhattan Ballpoint Pen takes standard Parker ballpoint pen refills. Choose from hundreds of eye-catching materials for the barrel. In hardly any time at all, you'll have a twist pen that will truly be turning heads.

Very easy to assemble
This pen is a great gift, since the fist pen I turned in November I've had ten or more requests for more, very stylish pen with any blank or laser inlay.

Easy to Turn, Looks Very Classy
The "black" parts shown in the Rockler photo are a dark, metallic gray, not black. Look at the example photos posted by Rockler customers to see for yourself.

I turned many pens from different Rockler pen kits this year for holiday gifts, including several Manhattan pens. The Manhattan pens are the easiest pens I have found yet. You turn one piece and finish it, then press the cap on. It is the only time you need a press. Insert the mechanism and ink cartridge in the bottom, then screw on the tip. With your hands, push the top part onto the bottom part. Done.

I turned several Manhattan pens this year, from the Titanium Gold kits and also the regular Gold kits. As far as I could tell, they are identical, other than the titanium gray vs. black on the top and bottom. The gold parts are the same. The titanium gray looks special. Black is black.

Caution: Pay attention to the clip as you press the cap in place. The clip will bend slightly against the pen to provide normal clip pressure, but don't allow it to bend much. You can accidentally bend it too far, and then it won't touch the pen when assembly is complete.

Nicest pen I've turned yet.
This is the first single body pen I've turned. I liked it. Very easy to put together as well (only one pressure fitting). It writes very well too, not like some ball points.

One thing that isn't apparent in the stock photos is that the black parts are NOT black. They are black titanium... ie.. dark silvery gray. It's hard to explain. From certain angles they look black, from others, silvery gray. I really like the look, but thought I was losing my mind for a minute :)

Will this accept a pilot G2 refill?
Scott M on Dec 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Probably not. It takes a standard Parker style refill only.
please tell me how long of a blank i will need to make this pen?
r t on Nov 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The finished barrel will be 2 1/4 inches long. Leave yourself an extra 1/8 to 1/4 inch for squaring the ends for a starting length of 2 1/2 inches.
Does this have two platings, black titanium and plain gold or is the gold titanium as well? How durable are the platings?
Scott M on Dec 13, 2017
The Manhattan Pen Kit has two finishes. The tip assembly and the cap assembly are both in three (3) sections, the gold portion of this pen are the two outer parts of each section and the black titanium is in the middle part of each section.
