For fine detail work at a great price, it's hard to beat the Rikon 10-600VS Variable Speed Scroll Saw. The saw accepts both pinned and pinless blades, and the speed can be varied from 550 to 1650 strokes per minute to suit the wood species, thickness and cutting radius. The included flexible work lamp provides good visibility, and allows you to move the lamp as needed to eliminate shadows. The saw even includes a power takeoff port for attaching an optional flex shaft multi-tool—great for cleaning up edges after you've finished sawing.

It is quiet and smooth - almost no vibration sitting loose on the bench. Cast iron frame is solid. Mine is for light/occasional use which minimizes the annoyance of changing the blade. I think it's a great tool, especially for the price.

Great Saw!
So I was on the way home on Saturday and stopped by Rockler for some scroll saw blades for my H F saw. I happend to notice the Rikon scroll saw on sale for $129. That is $70 on the normal price. So I searched the reviews on Rockler just to see how good the saw is. What I found was a bunch of reviews about how hard it is to use the adapter for the pinless blades. I actually found it very easy, took me about 3 min to put the adapters on the blade and install the blade. Over all the saw works very good for what I need and is a far cry better than the HF brand.

I like it
I finally replaced my old scroll saw, which cost considerably more 25 years ago, because I could no longer get parts. This was my first try with pinless blades and I like it so much that I doubt that I'll use the pinless adaptors. This saw is every bit as good as the one I replaced.

Versatile
With an Olson 15 TPI run at the lowest speed setting, it can manage cuts through 1/8 inch thick 6061 aluminum plate. No blade breakage.

Great tool for the money!
Nice tool for the money. I took the guard panel off the side of the base to ease blade changes.

I was told in the store that this saw does not take pinless blades even though the add states that it does. The blade attachment pictured is different than the saw in the store. Can I use pinless blades with this saw?
A R on Nov 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You can but it is pretty fussy and if you are looking to do intricate scroll work this isn't the saw you need. You will get tired of the blade change process quickly.
