I purchased the jig, bit and bushing for my first router project using my brand new Rigid combo kit. Set up was a breeze and the jig and bushing work as advertised, making the job pretty straight-forward. Still had to drill the small set-screw holes with an 11/32 drill bit after the big hole was routed. Used a measured piece of 3/4" copper pipe as a "depth jig" so as not to drill right through the doors, but it works beautifully. I think it is easier than with a Forstner jig and bit.

Even a beginner can do it! Had to go out and get the 1/2" router bit, though. Will use all these things time and time again, and like others said, cost effective for the hobbiests.

Elegant in its simplicity and perfect in its functionality; I love this little template. I had been using the Festool jig but found it to be overly complex and frustrating. I purchased this template (it was cheap) and a carbide bit from American Carbide and have been thrilled with how well they work-quick and easy with better results than the big bucks Festool. If I could suggest an improvement it would be to put a more visible registration mark on the bottom of the template.

Great little jig! I already had the bit and the bushing so this was the least expensive way for me to get my holes bored. As others have noted, using a plunge router will minimize any chance of catastrophes. Worked perfectly for me. A good option for those on a budget.

Worked like a charm! I was able to rout sixteen 35mm cup holes in an hour. I can hold off on the drill press purchase for a while longer now! Super fast shipping as always from Rockler.

good jig
I have a habit of looking at other peoples reviews before I buy. You need a plunge router base to use this jig. With that said it is a good jig to use if you don't have a lot of hinges to install, works very well. Take your time as positioning the jig. The outer edge of my project had an irregular edge (live edge) so I had to use the inner edge of the rails to position the jig, a bit tricky but worked beautifully.

Works great but be careful!
It works as advertised but a second of mental relaxation can destroy the plexiglass. I damaged two so far and finally got the method down. This product should come with an additional plexiglass and there should be replacement glass sold to fix damaged ones.

I've now used this jig to build 28 doors and the only reason I didn't give it an excellent rating is that it should be sold in sets of two or four and priced a little better. Using one at a time is very slow going but gets great results every time!

Make sure you use a plunge...
Make sure you use a plunge router. It can be done with a fixed base but then you run the risk of dropping the bit into the jig. A 1/2" spiral bit will destroy the jig in short order. I'm off to buy another jig due to being too lazy to get out my big P/C plunge. Needless to say I will be using the beast for the remaining 24 hinges I need to complete.

Should I mount the bar to the hinge template for a 3mm or 5mm tab?
Vince P on Jun 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Euro hinges usually have only two set backs. Frameless hinges are set to the 5mm setting and the
Face frame hinges are set to the 3mm setting
The instructions on the packaging direct to use a 5/8" template bushing with a 1/2" upcut router bit. Is there any reason I couldn't use a 3/8 template bushing with a 1/4" upcut bit vs the 5/8 and 1/2"?
shrubfan on Jan 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I just used this jig on a scrap piece. 1/4" upcut bit and 1/4" ID bushing. Hole wound up being 37mm diameter. I'd imagine the OD of the bushing is important, since that's what sets the hole diameter. Quite technical, and I don't see the OD of the bushing called out anywhere.
How far are the two hinge screw (used for clamping) 42mm apart or 45mm apart from each other?
Robbie on Oct 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I measure 45mm on the jig I have.
I have many bushings and drill bits.... but not this combination. What else could work? What is the diameter of the jig hole? 2-1/8 I would think? 54mm?
