Sapphire Blue Acrylic Acetate Pen Blank

Item #

Rating:
100% of 100

Acrylic Acetate is a popular semi-translucent material that is available in a wide variety of colors and patterns. This pattern is called Sapphire Blue, a deep blue overall with a ''crushed flake'' visual texture. Acrylic is easily cut, drilled, trimmed and turned. It turns down to dimension very quickly, so take care to use light pressure. It takes a very nice polish, which can be accomplished by sanding to a fine grit and then polishing on a buffing wheel with Corian® polish, buffing compound or Hut finishing blocks.

Great Color
After my disaster with the Deep Freeze Acrylic Pen Blank, I used this blank to finish the pen. My customer really loved the pen. This blank really made the Artisan Aero pen really stand out. I highly recommend it.

A beautiful blank
This blank makes a beautiful pen and I would recommend to anyone who like the color. It turns very easily with Rockler's carbide pen turning tool set. Just go slow and when drilling I find it's best to have a scrap board under the acrylic to avoid the blank from breaking.

Can this material be glued to wood for a non-pen project?
Larry W on Apr 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I used it when I combined it with an ebony blank and turned a beautiful pen out of it!
