Solid Brass Box Quadrant Hinges

Item #
62% of 100

Classic screw, nail and rivet hinge. Economical and easy to affix, ideal for small boxes. Mounting hardware included. Available in two sizes.

Make the mortising process faster and easier with the JIG IT® Q4 Small Quadrant Hinge Mortise Template or the JIG IT® Q3 Large Quadrant Hinge Mortise Template and the JIG IT® Hinge Mortising System

The Quadrant Hinge Templates help guide where you need to route so you don't need to measure and mark it yourself. Each template features a simple design and a clear face you can see where you will be routing with ease. The Q3 Template is designed for #24300 (Solid Brass Large-Box Quadrant Hinge 1-5/8''W x 1-5/8''H x 9/32'') while the Q4 Template is designed for use with #21962 (Solid Brass Small-Box Quadrant Hinge 1-1/4''W x 1-1/4''H x 7/32'').

Both of the templates are designed to work with the JIG IT® Hinge Mortising System. Simply place the template into the system and clamp it where you'd like it to sit. When you are done just lift the template out of the system. Not only does this speed up the process by eliminating the need to mark and measure, but it can be reused with a variety of mortising templates.

Excellent for custom humidor
I made a custom humidor for a client with an intricate inlaid lid and used these hinges. They work exceptionally well and look sharp to boot. I did use the inlay jig for these hinges, and it too made the process quick, clean and accurate.

Excellent Hinges
I have used the larger of the two hinges many times; Item #24300 and I have never had a problem. First, I use the Rockler quadrant hinge mortise template system and it works great. It’s a bit pricy but if you plan on using these hinges many times over it is worth it. Second, I use a #2 gimlet to pre-thread the holes and this makes all the difference in the world. Third, I always use bees wax to lubricate the screws before inserting them. The limiter strips have worked well on my projects. You will need to recess the hole about 15/16” to accommodate for them.

Big bang for the buck!
I had a great experience with these. I used the Jig-It template and the set up and routing went flawlessly. I'm not sure why a lot of the reviewers had trouble with these screws. Mine were all steel, brass plated. These are #2 screws and require a #0 Philips-driver. Drill pilot holes with #55 drill, use Lloyd's Akempucky, and two-finger torque and the screws go right in. Definitely will use these again. A whole lot less expensive than Brusso.

For the sides of a small box, can the smaller hinge (21962) be used on 3/8 in stock ?
Craig N on Nov 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It should work just fine.
I have a compact Rigid brand router with a fixed base. Will it work well with the quadrant hinge Jig it?
Kirk N on Dec 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, you will need to support a guide bushing, and the Rigid does not support it.
how do you cut the mortise?
A shopper on May 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I used a 5/16 dia. router bit set at 1/16" deep for the legs. Use 4 set-ups, one for the top left and right bottom, sides and one for the top right and top left; 2 others set-ups for the back cuts. The mortise for the stop needs to be at least 1 1/4" deep for the bottom and 3/4" for the top. On the bottom, I drill a series of holes 3/16" starting about 1/4" from the back to 1" centered in the router groove; on top start 1/2" from the back to 1", Then clean up with a mortise chisel. Assemble and check for drag, clean out more material as needed.
what size screws are used for the small quadrant hinge?
Mike on Mar 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It was awhile ago but if memory serves they came with screws. I use a bit of hardware so I am not sure if they were brass screws. If so, I did not used them since brass screws strip easily in hardwoods. I use brass plated steel screws probably #2 or 4. The brass screws work OK if you generously pre-drill and use a very good screwdriver, not power. Sorry I can not be of more help. Mule Skinner Woodoworking
My box is 3/8 inch thick. do you think the 1/4 inch wide hinge would work here or is 3/8 inch too thin? thanks
paulp on Nov 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If I understand you correctly, you used 3/8" thick stock to make your box. I have bought this hinge, but not used it yet. I am not sure how you intend to make the mortices for the hinge, but if you intend to use the Rockler Jig IT Hinge Mortising system, their description states you can use it on 3/8" stock (the fence is adjustable to use 3/8" material). You will have to be very careful with your set-up however you decide to make the mortices as you will have almost no room for error (1/16" per side when centering). Keep in mind that when you drill out the deep mortice for the part of the hinge that goes into the side, that the walls will be very thin. I would practice on scrap wood of the same thickness first. Good luck.
Can I drill the mortise for the hinge and if so does it need to angle?
Michael F on Apr 10, 2019
I use the Rockler JIG IT® Hinge Mortising System , If your going to do more boxes with Quad Hinges you may want to pick the jig up well worth the money. But no before the Jig I would just keep pushing the mortise back till the arm fit's. the Hinge will cover the mortise. What makes the jig so worth it is you have to set mortises in the box and the cover for the correct fit.
Are these available in chrome ?

the JIg instruction states see hinge for instruction but???????? Disappointing Rockler allow this
stan on Jan 9, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have used these hinges several times but never with the Jig It. I can only suggest that the instructions are referring to the installation dimensions as outlined with the hinge itself.
Do you have to use the stop bar?
I would like to use these on a lid that opens to 180 degree.
rob m on Mar 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I did not use them because after I bought them I found out they were to small for my project
may i know if this hinge is machined from solid brass or its through stamping process? whats the thickness of the leave. Im needing the hinge for a hi end project and my client request good quality hinge. I have my box rejected by my client earlier due to poor quality hinge. So depressing.... So Im very careful with the selection.
Really appreciate your reply and hope u can assist me.
thank u.
soke hwang c on Jul 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you have a high quality box and a paying customer you should probably buy Brusso. These hinges are not uniform. They are stamped. the leaf thickness is 1.5 mm.
