An excellent finish for the finest of furniture, Tried & True Varnish Oil is a semi-gloss topcoat that builds durability and sheen with each application. It has excellent abrasion and scratch resistance and takes a high polish, if such is desired. Made from highly polymerized linseed oil fortified with natural resin varnish, which is derived from pine sap. Indoor use only.

Features:

  • A unique blend of highly refined polymerized linseed oil and natural resin varnish
  • Resin is modified pine sap (a modified ester of Rosin that is non-toxic and food safe)
  • Formula derived from 19th century varnish making techniques
  • High resin content produces a beautiful semi-gloss sheen
  • Builds gloss, depth, and durability with each coat
  • Will take an excellent polish, making it the ultimate hand-rubbed finish
  • Gets harder and more durable with age

Directions for Use:

  • Apply thin coats. It is almost impossible to use too little
  • Allow the finish to sit on the surface about 1 hour
  • Wipe dry and buff
  • Consult the label for instructions on how to dispose of wiping cloths
  • Two or three coats is usually enough on vertical surfaces
  • Table tops or similar applications should get a minimum of three coats
  • Buff with a soft, clean cloth to maintain the shine

My main finish for furniture and small items.
I’ve used both the varnish and the base oil. Both have performed wonderful on cherry and walnut. Key is to use thin coats and wipe down an hour later. Great finish as long as you are okay with some elbow grease.

Awesome!!
I love this stuff. My new go to finish. It smells somewhat like pine trees, has no VOCs, and need very little.

Local. Solid. Worth it.
Excellent feel and application quality. Goes on well with rage and shines up nice with 0000 steel wool. Expensive, but the coverage seems adequate. Great for small stuff, especially food contact.

Love the results.
I use this finish on reclaimed hemlock that I used to make a shelf unit for our vacation home bar area. It did an incredible job of bring out the beautiful colors in the old wood. I have used this product on several projects and going to use it again on a pallet wood wall which is behind the shelf unit.

Excellent product. It's a thick top quality linseed oil. I have been using it in place of Danish Oil with excellent results. It goes a LONG way.

May I use a furniture wax on the finish after it has dried?
tim k on Oct 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You can apply the same varnish again. I used it in the crib I built for my son. After 6 months I applied the varnish again. I guess you can apply the furniture wax but it will depend on what kind of product it is. If it is food safe and organic like the varnish then it is okay. I found my son leaking the wood so I won't never apply anything that is not food safe.

BEST ANSWER: usually durability is an issue on finishes for table tops . polyurethane in a semi gloss will be durable and if you want a mat finish hit it with some steel wool one it is dry
