maple blank
I'm using the Maple for squares in a chess board, the remainder for mallets. One of the better light-colored hardwoods.

Base for a boat seat
I bought these blanks because they are hardwood and am using them for a base on some seats in my boat. When I am finished I will submit some pictures of how they were built and the finished piece.

The maple turning blanks could have been a better color match
I had no issue with the individual blanks, however I would have preferred that the blanks were a better color match. One is a much darker shade than the other.

Blanks
The wood is mostly nice with some rough spots. Turning blanks is a good name for these, but some editing is needed on the wood pieces.

Sizing
Used these for a 3D chess board. Not all the same size. Still turned out to be a very cool 4-H project!

I'm making my own chess board and pieces. I chose African Mahogany and Maple turning blanks, which will be cut to 16", 16", 4", 3.5", 3", 3", 2.5", 2.5", 2.5", 2.5", and the rest 2". (2 turning blanks per color) The 16" pieces will each be split down to ~1/2" thickness for the boards since there is enough wood for two boards. The chess pieces I will actually turn into each of the 16 pieces on each side.

Are these blanks true 2x2 ?
William C on Aug 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Sometimes they are off by several thousandths but they are not undersized like dimensional lumber.
Are they perfectly straight?
DYI Rookie on May 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: As you know nothing is perfect when talking about raw wood but they don’t have warps and bows in them like you would find in the stuff from the big box stores. Hope this helps.
