24'' x 48'' Red Oak Plywood

Rating:

These red oak plywood panels offer excellent strength, dimensional stability, and screw holding ability. Ideal for projects where shrinking, warping, swelling, or splitting are a concern. All are high quality A2 grade precut plywood panels with both faces in red oak. All panels measure 24"W x 48"L, and are available in 1/4" and 3/4" nominal thicknesses.

Features:
  • Excellent strength and dimensional stability
  • Ideal when you want to minimize shrinking, warping, swelling, or splitting
  • Cross bands are made of Lauan veneer
  • Great screw, nail, glue and staple holding ability on the face; mechanical fasteners do not hold as well on the butt edges and ends
  • Use for wall coverings, drawer sides and bottoms, and a wide variety of case goods such as desks, kitchen cabinets, fixtures, and fine furniture
  • Sanded first with a 120 grit belt and then following with a 150 grit belt which eliminates burnishing and preps the surface for finishing

Unblemished wood
My order arrived safe and sound. The red oak plywood inside was perfect. I was worried about ordering without seeing the goods first but it was fine.

It was what was needed to make drawer bottoms and the box sides. With plywood being undersized, i.e.: not 1/4", set up is a little harder.
The quality was very good and I would buy more when needed

nice stuff for plywood panel red oak cupboard doors
This is a high quality product. The only down side is that it ships wrapped in a corrugated cardboard folder which apparently still doesn't protect it from some corner damage in shipping. 1/2" was dinged up on a corner of each panel.

There is real red oak veneer on both faces (though a notably different grain pattern). It looks nice with a clear finish (or a bit of tinted finish to match the aged finish on the existing cupboards I am trying to match).

Excellent plywood / Poor Packaging
The plywood is excellent quality, no complaints. Luckily I only needed 22" of the 24" wide so I was able to trim both corners to eliminate the damaged from the poor way the piece was packaged. The additional $5.00 required for shipping would be worth the fee if the plywood corners were better protected so they would not be damaged in shipping.

Bowed
I ordered 2- 24 x 48 x 1/4 in. plywood. I received one piece that was badly bowed. These were to be used for doors.

Can this be used for kitchen cabinet fronts?
r k on Jul 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I used a Whiteside rail and stile router package, including the modified slot cutter for slightly undersized plywood panels, and these panels fit great into the frames. With a bit of yellow tinting in the finish, I was able to match the aged cabinets for which I am replacing a couple doors.
are both sides oak veneer ?
Jim P on Oct 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, both sides are red oak.
Can I get the 24" board cut into three 8" sections?
MiyagiLee24 on Oct 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I think that this is a case where someone at Rockler didn't use their Common Sense or else was just too lazy to answer it so they passed the buck. This is obviously a question that was directed at Rockler because I think that Miyagi is concerned about the 2 one eighth inch kerfs that he will lose if he cuts the panel himself. Come on Rockler you are better than this.
Is this exterior plywood?? I what to use on an above waterline project on my pontoon boat.
s c on May 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Definitely not. There is only one intermediate ply, with grain across the panel, and then very thin veneer on the front and back, so it has little of the strength benefits of plywood. It has enough integrity to make a nice panel inside a rail/stile frame for a cabinet door, but not any additional strength. With these wood types, and this construction, it is definitely not appropriate for anything exterior or requiring more strength.
I am looking for the veneer to be rift cut to match the clients current cabinet door. What does this panel look like on it's face?
John H on Sep 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It looks like a rotary-cut veneer with alternating quarter-sawn and plain-sawn grain in about a 10-12 inch cycle. I was able to rip it in 6 inch widths that looked like quarter-sawn, for panel inserts.
What is the actual thickness? 1/4” is .250. in decimals what is yours?
Martin Ruff on Oct 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Martin, I didn't measure the thickness of the panel i received with a caliper but I cut the groove for the panel with a 7/32" router bit and the panel fit tightly in the grove.

I'm not sure if this will help you, Dave.
