3/4'' Baltic Birch Plywood

Our 3/4'' thick baltic birch plywood features quality one-piece plies for exceptional strength and screw holding power.

Rating:
88% of 100

Each sheet of our 3/4'' Baltic Birch Plywood is constructed from high-quality, one-piece birch laminations for exceptional strength and screw holding power. The density of the plies (40% more plies than standard plywood) results in excellent stability, while the increased thickness of the face plies means far more resistance to sand-through. All-birch cores have little to no voids—sand the edges for a nice, finished look. Faces may contain some matched plugs, and one face is light and even in color for an attractive finished face. Available here in several sizes and quantities. See our other offers for different thicknesses (1/8'', 1/4'', 1/2'' and 3/4''). All dimensions are nominal and may be slightly undersized.

Grade BB/BB: Both faces are relatively "void free" but may contain small patches and a slight knot pattern or mineral streaks. One face is light and even in color. Open knots and defects in a BB face veneer have been removed and replaced with small uniform ''football'' patches before being glued. The end result is a strong plywood that is attractive enough to be used on a variety of projects.

Used for jigs
I used this plywood for making table saw jigs. I didn't see any voids while cutting it up and was flat at straight.

shipping issues
Received 2 3/4 24x30 pieces today. One piece had a dent in face as a result of shipping damage. There was only padding (sheet of packing paper) on one side. I am hoping to steam out the dent.
My expectations were low since I was looking for structure not visual from bb-bb grade. Though there were edge voids which I didn't expect.

My comment to the 2nd reviewer
I ordered both 1/2” and 3/4”. I have not checked the flatness yet, but a 1/16” over 24 inches is a lot. I remember a surveyor friend who had to be within 1/8” in 400 FEET! You do the math.
The materials are obviously humidity sensitive and will not be perfect. However with the number of plies in this type of material I would expect it to be better than the first reviewer experienced.

I’ll update my review after using my plywood.

3/4" Russian made Baltic Plywood
Not a very high quality product ... not even close to the baltic birch plywood I have purchased from another national online supplier of woodworking products.

Horribly bad tearout
The piece itself was ok. Measurements were about 1/4 inch short all around but I bet on that based on other reviews. My problem is that the horribly bad tearout caused by whatever Rockler cut it with made over an inch of it unusable. They should never have shipped a piece like this to a customer. This represents poor customer service. Very disappointed in Rockler.

Questionable Quality
I ordered the 3/4", 1/2" and 1/4". Both the 3/4" and 1/4" were warped/bowed beyond usability. For example, the 3/4" was bowed over 1/16" across the 24" width. I pay extra for Baltic Birch because I have expectations about it's flatness, which these did not meet.

Voids in new cuts. Warped badly. Surface veneer tears out badly.
I October of 2019 I purchased a sheet to add fold down table to the front of a pellet grill and a table saw crosscut sled with the remaining portion. This week when I cut the remaining portion for the sled it warped. There were voids that showed up in the new cuts. This product is very poor quality.

Is this 3/4" baltic birch plywood void free?
Mtn River Woodworks on Feb 19, 2020

Is the glue on the laminations waterproof? I'm looking for a sheet to make an outdoor sign with.
James K on Dec 7, 2019
BEST ANSWER: If you want to use this outside, you should probably use a marine Spar varnish to protect it from water damage. Not only is the glue of any plywood susceptible to moisture but the wood itself would eventually swell and split and turn gray if not protected.
