They are OK, Not great
For the price they work OK, but in my experience they come loose when they shouldn't. .But they cost a 1/3 of what better ones cost.

Since I finished by work bench, I use them all the time. I wish I knew about these sooner.

4 - 1/4" Holddown
This was my first use of a bench holdown. It works very well, actually exceeds expectations. I am retired and woodworking is my pastime/ hobby. The blue paint did mark up my bench, so paintstripper was used to remove it from the holddown. The finish was pretty rough but with a little filing the holddown surface was made smooth. Very good tool for the money.

Tried & True tested over centuries of use
These hold-down have the advantage of having been use tested & used for centuries by wood workers who made their living in the saw dust of this utilitarian tool. Good for carvers as well as flat workers in wood.

Hold-fast
I already had one of these, but it is often convenient to hold down both ends of a long piece of stock. The first one worked well, so I ordered another to match.

I am building my own workbench and need something to hold down my work. This design has worked for a long time and this particular product is budget friendly but according to reviews is sturdy and will last. Looking forward to finishing bench and trying out the hold downs.

Is the 90407 hold down cast or forged?
A shopper on Jul 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It is cast
How thick of a workbench do you need for them to hold well? Can it be too thick?
Brian on Feb 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: my bench is 2 1/2 inch ash & they hold well. I guess there is not max depth, as long as the dog holes are at least deep enough to not bottom out with your material in place. Probably best to have through holes so shavings don't fill them.
How to use this hold down clamp?
A shopper on Jul 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: To use this clamp you have to have one or more 3/4" holes drilled in your bench. You stick the long round port into the hole with the flat on top of your work, then tap it with a mallet. This wedges it in the hole. If it's too loose tap harder. To release it tap on the back of it.
