Powermatic® 6'' Jointer w/Quick-Set Knives

Item #
100% of 100

The 6" Jointer features three auto-set knives that align themselves in the cutterhead for rapid knife changes. Oversized infeed/outfeed tables are mounted on dovetailed ways and have a built-in rabbeting ledge. The fence is 38" in length, with positive stops at 90° and 45° right and left. The fine/quick adjustment lever on the infeed table offers quick set-ups with precision controlled depth of cut. The heavy steel stand features a powerful motor with a non-slip v-belt drive for maximum performance. The 4" dust port offers easy connection to any dust collection system.

Virtually all forms of joinery and the tools that cut them depend on straight edges and square cuts. The POWERMATIC 54A 6" Jointer makes it easy to achieve the high levels of accuracy you need in this always-crucial operation.

Woodworking Experience:
Worth the difference
Bought Powermatic since Jet was not available at the time, very glad I did so. Very well made, heavy, with some better features. It is big and heavy, both advantages, and the table and fence surface is beautiful. I bolted it down with a thin pad underneath to make it very stable. Have not had it very long, but so far cannot find a fault. My previous Jet lasted 40 years before the motor expired, replaced rather than fixed so I am good for at least another 40

How hard is it to put the knives back in after sharpening?
Curt W on Jun 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Just follow the instructions in the manual, they are very well written. I have done mine a number of times. It does take some time to set them up correctly, but it is well worth it.
Where to look for a straight edge to adjust the joiner?

BEST ANSWER: I love the Veritas straightedge and feeler gauges. They just had a nice size and shape for this kind of work.
What type of power supply is needed to run this?
Daryl H on Sep 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Either 120 or 240, comes as 120 and by a simple wiring change can be 240. I changed mine to 240, but not necessary if you have 120 in place.
