Rockler 28'' x 40'' Table Top

Item #
45996
Rating:
98% of 100

This top is made of solid MDF for stability and flatness, and coated with melamine so it won't mar your parts, and sheds glue easily. It's generously dimensioned at 28'' x 40'', and works well for a general-purpose work table, a sanding station, or an assembly table. It also works well as a table top for the Shark line of CNC routers. Pair it with your own shop-built base cabinet, or with our 24''W x 36''L Shop Stand (#48089, sold separately). Also available from Rockler, the complete Rockler CNC Table w/Stand and Controller Brackets.

The table is very well built, makes a nice surface for gluing. Didn't have any in stock at local store so they shipped it free to home, arrived within 3 business days.

Worktop
Purchased this to go on top of my Material Mate cart. I will be routing in T-tracks so I can use this as a multi-purpose worktop and still carry 3/4" plywood on the cart. Nice top for the price.

Is the melamine coating on both sides?
Pyro1 on Sep 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the melamine coating is on both sides. One side also has an engraved Rockler logo.
How much does this weigh?
Brandon S on Nov 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The technical info for this top states it weighs 41 pounds. I have three, two I occasionally use on my table saw for gluing my projects, and one is fastened to Rockler's steel bench frame. Great tops.
How does one affix this to the Rockler 24 x 36 steel stand?
Michael F on Jul 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Lay the top on the floor, top face down to the floor. Lay the assembled frame, upside down onto the top, center it to position it. Mark the holes with a marker or pencil. Predrill the marded spots, being careful not to drill through to the oppisite side. Depending on the screws you use, I drilled about 5/8". Sit the frame back into position, install the screws, then set the whole assembly right side up.
How does the top attach to a table?
Donald E on Oct 21, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You can screw inserts, or you can screw from the bottom of a frame up into the table top. I use this top with T-track as a removable top to my Rockler Material Mate Panel Cart and Shop Stand. I have blocks attached to the underside of the work surface which keeps the top in place; then when I need to use the Material Mate, I just lift the top off. It's heavy enough that I don't have to fasten it down; it uses gravity to stay put. While this combination overall is a bit spendy, I find it to be very useful and I'm always needing it for something!
I have a number of Rockler T-tracks and a bunch of hold-down T-clamps - I'd like to put these on a 'table' - will the MDF hold screws well under clamping pressure; and if I want to make the track grooves w/ my dado blade, can the edge molding be removed? - thanks.
G I on Mar 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: i wouldn't recommend modifying this table top. Get the actual T-track table or use another table top such as a similar size piece of 3/4" plywood.
Purchasing this table and then modifying it will not give you the results of duplicating the T-track table.
is this the same thickness as the Rockler router table top?
Mark on Mar 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hello Mark,
Great question, I have both table tops. I measured with micrometer at several points around the perimeter of each top and measure as:
Router table: 1.1820" or 1 3/16" or 30.03 mm
CNC table top: 1.1405" or 1 9/64" or 28.98 mm
Hope this helps
Henry
What is the best way to cut it for miter track? Dado?
Ted K on May 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The easiest way is probably a hand-held route and a guide. Just sure you are cutting in the correct direction or the router can wander, which happened to me. I filled in the error with acrylic and it works great.
