Dust Right® Shop Vacuum Hose Reel

Just pull out the hose to clean up—no need to drag along a clunky shop vacuum.
Item #
80% of 100

Paired with a hose of sufficient length, our Shop Vacuum Hose Reel brings the benefit of a central vacuum cleaner to your shop. Rather than dragging along a clunky shop vacuum that's constantly tipping or getting caught on obstacles, you simply leave the vacuum against the wall and reel out up to 40' of hose, enough to easily span a 2-car garage. As opposed to a vacuum, hoses easily snake around corners and through narrow spaces. They are lightweight and comfortable to handle. Using a stationary vac with a long hose also lets you integrate a dust separator into your system without having to pull the additional bulk around. When you're finished cleaning, just reel up the hose with the integral crank.

  • Holds up to 40' of 1-1/2'' shop vacuum hose
  • Designed for standard 1-1/2'' hose, which accepts commonly available accessories
  • Tension knob is adjustable to keep the hose from uncoiling too easily
  • Sturdy steel frame is pre-drilled 16'' on center for mounting to two studs
  • May be installed with the crank oriented for either left- or right-handed users
  • Maximize performance with a dust separator without having to pull around the additional weight
  • Due to the length of the hose that this reel is designed for, your shop vacuum should have at least 4HP
  • The Shop Vacuum 1-1/2” hose will need a fitting on one end that is 2-1/4” OD.
  • Hose Port on the inside of the Hose Reel has a 2-1/4” ID.
  • The Hose Port on the outside of the Hose Reel has an OD of 2 1⁄2" and an ID of 2 1⁄4".

vacuum hose reel
Works great. It is a little heavy to hang, but it allowed me to get rid of some clutter in the workshop. It is connected to a cyclone separator and then a shop vac. I have connectors and blast gates allowing me to use the same vac for cleaning the shop and dust collection for various smaller tools.

Functional & very well constructed
Great addition to my shop. I have about 34’ of hose which will reach beyond my needs. There is a slight loss of suction at the end of this hose but the convenience is more than worth that loss. Very happy with this purchase.

Hose Reel
Combined with 20' of 2 1/2" hose I am able to reach all corners of my small shop. Rolls out and back very smoothly and easily. I guess it's a little pricey, but I sure like the way it works.

Still working out the bugs
For 22 years I have produced hand made custom garage doors. I need to make good use of every inch of space in my shop and efficient dust collection has been an ongoing evaluation.
I had no wall space left for this reel except for a nook behind the table saw storage pocket. Can't reach crank so I adapted a 1/2 hp garage door operator head to the reel. Still have a bug or two to work out for "reel" automatic operation but it is already a great improvement and time saver. I can reach any point in my shop now with out rigging up several vac-hoses.
Old op. head takes #48 roller chain.
I adapted a bicycle chain sprocket to replace the crank handle.
It all fits into the tight space under the table saw extension.
The saw comes in and out as need and so does the vac hose through a chase in the table saw stand.

Dust Right Vacuum Hose reel
I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of this product. After years of dragging the vacuum hose around the shop, this is the perfect solution and probably adds a lot to shop safety. I installed 20 feet of the 1 1/2" hose and it works well with my shop vacuum for picking-up sawdust. However, I do use the shop vacuum for some tool dust collection and will try the 2 1/4" hose which fits nicely on the reel connector. I highly recommend this product.

Is the unit designed for 1.5 inch hose only or is it possible to connect a 2.5 inch hose to it?
Bruce J on Dec 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: With the right adapter, any size will work, however the blue 1.5" hose they recommend probably gives you the optimum range and flexibility. Most 2.5" hoses I'm familiar with are a little stiff- hard to crank on reel and go around corners.
Where can you find 40 feet of hose in one piece for sale???
Woodworkjohn on Dec 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This is available at
I just bought a 20 ft 2.5 hose. If it holds 40 feet of 1.25 would it hold 20 feet of 2.5??
Denise K on Dec 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The hose sold intended for the reel comes with the shop vac connector. If you have a shop vac connector for that hose, I don't see why not. However, the opening in the reel connection point (to the hose) is the size of a 1-1/2" hose; I don't know if you want to reduce the air flow from a 2.5" hose. However, it is a shop vac connection point, so it would fit; but you might need a larger hose clip.
What size is the port on the dust collector side? Can I use my regular 4" dust collector hose, or will I need an adapter? Thank you
Stan V on Dec 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It is a standard shop vac port connection. No, a 4" hose would not fit on this reel; you could connect a 2.5" hose & shop vac port and adapt to your 4" vacuum/hose.
What are the dimensions completely assembled?
Roger G on Jan 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It is 25 1/2" wide including the hand crank and hose connection. It extends 18 1/2 " from the wall and is 14" tall. I am very happy with mine and would recommend this.
Does this system work with Fein or Festool vacuums?
BartScott on Aug 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I found I can use any vacuum as long as there is an adapter to fit the 1.5 to 2 inch hose. The vacuum performs best at hp rates over 5 Currently using a shop vac 6.5 hp 14 gallon unit. Seems after all my efforts this unit is the most versatile for my shop.
Is there significant suction loss over 40' of flexible hose?
I am interested in the 40' hose (Item #: 50669) to use in the Dust Right® Shop Vacuum Hose Reel (Item #: 52542) but I'm worried that my shop vac will lose too much suction over that length of flexible hose.

BEST ANSWER: I have an old Fein Turbo II vacuum with an attached Dust Deputy. I purchase 20' of the Rockler 2" hose and then added the 16' of the Fein hose which I believe is about 1-1/2 ". There is a little loss in suction but it still picks up dust and 1/2 dia. chunks of wood through the floor attachment. I suspect the people that say they have too much suction loss do not have a high quality vacuum.
I have two 20 foot hoses. Will they fit including the connectors, which would be more rigid?
Fred L on Jan 5, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I have the same setup and they fit on the reel. But I haven’t found a vacuum strong enough to keep a strong suction through the 40 feet of hose. Hope that helps
It looks like this is intended for a shop vac. Will it work with a 5hp dust collector? I'm concerned about the lack of suction comments.
Art on Jul 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I bought this hose reel and 40 ft hose to use with a Delta shop vac. It seems to have marginal vacuum on the open end, probably because the hose has so many small ridges in it that interrupt the air flow. A smoother hose (or shorter say 20 ft) might be a better choice to load onto this hose reel. I mounted it on two studs and it feels sturdy and works well to retract the extended hose. You might need to get a 'true' 5 hp system as the Delta unit only has a 2 hp motor running at 230VAC.
What are the actual dimensions of the reel and its mounting plate, i have a limited amount of space to mount it in ?

Does this include hose to connect to vac? Or do I have to cut one?
Fred L on Jan 5, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It does not include any hose. I hooked directly to my vacuum system using PVC fittings and a short piece of hose. Works great.
is the vacuum suction port 4"?
lynn m on Feb 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, but you can purchase a adapter to go from 4" to 2" so you use a bigger vaccum system.

BEST ANSWER: I can't be much help, I purchased this item some time ago but have not installed it yet, my shop is packed with so much stuff I am having trouble finding a spot for it.
years ago I bought a 3/4 HP with a 12’ 4” hose. It works OK with sawdust and hooked up to table saw bottom but weak on long reach floor clean up. How much HP is needed for 40’ at 1.5 hose?
William P on Jun 24, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have 50 feet of 1.5 inch hose with rocklers reel. I have a 3.5 hp shop vac with a oneida dust deputy attached. It works great for my router table. Small cleanup around the shop.. collecting dust from hand saunters and grinders. My larger machines with 4 inch ports. Are hooked up to a 3 hp cyclone dust collector with 6 inch pipe all the way to the machine then reduced to 4 inch at the machine. I don't think that 1.5 inch hose will be enough to handle 4 inch ports no matter what the horsepower.

Jerry C on Jun 19, 2019

32" W (including handle and hose coming from hookup)
I have owned this unit for over a year and really like it. I have a 20' section of hose on it and would like to add another 20' section. Is there a fitting available that will splice two sections of 1-1/2" hose?
Steve on May 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I found the coupler at EVCO house of hose. The sell all types of hoses for every use. The connector was a few dollars. I now have 40 feet of hose. I works great!
Do you offer a retractable hose reel that can hang from the ceiling?
Kurt S on Dec 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This item is not well suited for a ceiling mount. It is an excellent product which needs to be mounted on the wall. I use it every time I am in the shop. I purchased an additional 25' of hose which allows me to use it for my cars in the garage. I have no regrets regarding this product.
