These seems to be the only choice
Simply could not find a non cup type concealed hinge except this one. I could not use a cup type due to door design. They seems to work well. The only thing that might be improved is some adjustment for the spring pressure. When used on a very narrow door, it requires considerable pressure to open door.

Great no-show hinge for kitchen remodel
My kitchen cabinets are from the early 90s with visible hinges and for our remodel I was wanting to update our look with white paint and hidden hinges, but not wanting to replace the doors since they were of good quality. The beveled edge profile on the doors was not thick enough to allow for a euro-style hidden hinge that required an inset mortise cup, so these surface mount face frame hinges were perfect! I scoured the internet looking for hinges that would work and this was the only one. I was concerned that they only open 90 degrees, but after using them for a few weeks, I am satisfied and feel like the opening is just fine. They are not soft-close, they kind of snap open and will stay open until you push them closed and then they will kind of snap closed. I think overall, the compromise of not having soft-close is totally acceptable for keeping my existing doors and getting hidden hinges.

This hinge did the job for a old kitchen update. Keeping the hinge hidden. The doors were only 1/2 inch thick. No room for any type of boring. Would like to see a scaled down version of this style hinge.
Thanks, Ken

We needed hidden hinges in an RV that were surface mounted and didn't require extra "ooph" in the door's structure to open them. This totally fit the bill! The hinges are strong enough to keep the doors open without the assist of rods on the sides like the original hinges required and yet we didn't need to change the integrity of the doors. The install has been quick and easy once a template was printed out from the website!

I have face frame cabinets with partial overlay doors and a 3/8" inset lip. There are very few concealed hinges available that work for this arrangement. This is one of them, if you are ok with 90 degree opening. I ordered these for most of my doors, and the much more expensive Rocker 3/8 lipped face frame door hinges for a few where i want the 110 degree opening.

How do you know how far to place the hinge on the door? why don't u have printed instructions so that you have at least a starting point!! Not happy
roger s on Nov 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I put the inside edge of the door side hinge 3/4 inch from the inside edge of the door. The cabinet frame was 3/4 inch thick. Hope this helps.
Will these work with 1/4 inch overlay?
Amy R on May 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Sorry, just 1/2 and 5/8 inch overlays
They say a face framed cabinet but the picture does not look like a face framed cabinet? looks like it is attached to the inside of the cabinet wall? just want to make sure before I order.
JAN W on Mar 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The hinge in question is mounted on the inside of the cabinet. The picture you see is in the the closed position from the inside. You can't see the mounting of the hinge when you open the door. It's mounted in the back of the cabinet. Of course the hinge when opened is mounted on the door itself. I hope that answers your question.
I ordered and received these hinges, although they appear to be stuck in the 90 degree angle position. Is there a step I'm missing to get the hinge to unlock so that it will allow my cabinet doors to open and close?
Heather A on Oct 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Just looked at the hinge and I was wrong. There is an object in the hinge that keeps it from moving, looks like a piston shaped bearing. It has a spring inside... Just get a flat head screw driver and pry it inwards until it frees up the hinge, just don't take it all the way out.
Do these slam shut when they get close to shutting?
Wendi P on Oct 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes they do.This model type is not soft closing. The mounting screws will loosen up with use in a short time!
How heavy a cabinet door will these hold?
Cathy M on Jun 16, 2020
BEST ANSWER: A good rule of thumb is that each hinge will support a weight of 3.5Kg (7.7lb) with a standard door of 24" wide.
Would it be possible to use these with inset doors if I add a 3/4 inch block to the backside of the face frame? Would the door be able to clear the frame?
Clay W on Apr 30, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It is not obvious to me that adding a block behind the face frame would help and likely would make it worse. The big issue is that the inset doors would not open flush like a full face door and so not sure how to adapt to make these work without getting one and looking at your door.
Will this work on a face frame, partially inset door with about a 1/4” lip overlay?
Andrea W on Apr 28, 2020
BEST ANSWER: This hinge information does not indicate it can be used for a partial inset door so I doubt it would. There are other hinges that are used for partial inset doors. The ones at Rockler appear to be for 3/8 inch lip.
How long are the supplied screws?
Tim R on Oct 28, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The screws that came with my hinges are 5/8 inches long overall
Is this type Surface-Mount Face-Frame Hinge self close or soft close available?
GrandmaJamie G on Nov 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: That would be a question for Rockler, but definitely would have been a better application if I had known there was one. Doors slam shut if you don't close them with the handle.
Will these work for 1/2 in thick door? And will this effect the overlay?
JoshWarner on May 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Josh, yes these will work with a 1/2" door. I ordered one set of hinges and experimented with them before I ordered all that I needed. The overlay will not be affected if you don't mount the hinge too close to the edge of the door. I marked the front of my cabinet with a pencil around the sides and corners of my door before removing the door. I removed the old hinges on the door and cabinet and I mounted the new hinges on the cabinet (near where the old hinges were) before mounting them on the door. Then I held the door up to the cabinet with the hinges closed (and keeping the door within the marks on the front of the cabinet) marked the holes on the back of the door where the hinges would be attached to the door. I then removed the hinges from the cabinet and attached them to the door where my marks were and then reattached the door to the cabinet. This was difficult and time consuming at first but it helped me determine where to attach the rest of the hinges so that the overlay was correct on all my cabinets. Hope this helps! My builder was AMAZED and had never seen these hinges before!! He said I could go to work for him anytime!!!😁
I am replacing hinges on a 5/8 inch overlay door, will these work for me? My cabinet doors have a thin edge, designed to open by fingertips. Thanks in advance.
Susan C on Jan 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: They should work. I am assuming that the lower edges and upper edges (only) of your doors are beveled to the thin edge for opening. If the vertical edges are also beveled it will be a close fit but they should also work.
hi; I put lattice moulding around the face of my cabinet doors, to make them nicer. I didn't think that adding the thickness (doors are now 7/8" tick) would cause an issue with clearance, when opening, but they are surface mounted and I don't think the hinges I've got will work. I have some 90 degree walls that are going to impede the cabinet door now opening properly, because it's thicker. Do I have to build the sides of the cabinet out, and or, cut the doors narrower, to make space to open doors? Or would a hinge be able to pull it away from the corner and make more space, when opening? thank you!
Roxanna L on Nov 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This type of hinge opens straight out from the edge of the opening for the cabinet. So, if your door is 7/8" thick you will need at least 7/8" between the cabinet opening and a wall coming 90 degrees out from the cabinet face. You will also probably want some space for any door pull you will want to mount.
Are there any installation instructions? We are trying to install these and are struggling. I've searched the internet and cannot find an exact match. Please help. Thanks
Marcia T on Aug 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Mount the cabinet side of the hinge so that it is flush with the face frame. Then, with the door held in the open position, mount the door side of the hinge onto the door. The exact placement on the door, i.e. space from the edge of the door to the hinge, depends on how much overlay you want. But if you want 1/2" overlay, then the hinge on the door should be set about 1/2" away from the door edge. This measurement also depends on the thickness of your door.
Would this work for a no show bathroom/medicine cabinet mirror hinge (with frame to drill into)?
totallrob on May 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Its oversized for such a purpose. It's more appropriate for a workbench door. It also still needs to be drilled into from the rear. I also found there was a LOT of play in the hinge, so the door doesn't sit straight. I'd look elsewhere.
Stile is made of 1x2, will this mount work or is the stile too narrow? Using face frame also.
ja3019a on Jun 4, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes this will work on your center stile as well as the side of the face frame.
why can't these be used on 1/4" overlay doors?
Rickey W on Apr 21, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The hinge is designed to work with 1/2" to 5/8" (depending on door thickness). I have not used this hinge for 1/4" overlay applications. It may be possible by changing the mounting position, but I can not confirm this.
If our cabinet doors won’t completely close what should we do?

I have this hinge installed but very disappointed. I have 3/4" face frames, 1/2" doors. 1/2" overlay. The doors will not fully close, and the doors run the face frame finish on the hinge side. How can I fix this? Please help
Tim & on Dec 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I had the same issue due to every one of my 19 kitchen cabinet doors having some degree of warp or torque. I made up 1/8" aluminum spacers and placed them between the hinge and the door. Keeps the door off the face frame.
My face frame is bigger than 3/4" - it's 15/16". Will these hinges work?
Nancy s on Nov 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No Nancy, I'm pretty sure they won't. I used them on a cabinet with 3/4" face frames and I had to shim the door 1/8" off the hinge to keep the door from dragging across the frame. the hinges have been on for a year now and the doors won't stay closed. Don't waste your money on these hinges.

Tom T on Jan 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Sorry, no.
Can you use this hinge for inset cabinet?
Kamel on Sep 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have used these in my kitchen and they are designed for overlay doors. They attach to the inside of the frame (as pictured) , and have 3/4 space that allows the cabinets to close and overlay the front of the frame. You would likely be having your cabinets jut out 3/4 of an inch on the hinge side if you elected to try these on inset doors, and the handle side would ride 3/4 of an inch parallel as well. Another option is needed. FYI, I ordered a single pair on the front end to insure I understood how they worked before ordering in bulk. Good luck.
Is there a heavy duty version of this hinge? my cabinet door sits inset in a wall so the door and wall are flush. the door is very heavy and the its weight causes the hinges to sag and the door to rub on the frame and get stuck. It also damages the frame and door. Is there a similar hinge that can support up to a 40 pound door without having to router and inset the hinge into the door and frame?. I am currently using 3 surface mounted face frame hinges per door.
david g on Jul 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: David, Rockler asked me if could be of assistance. I installed 16 of of their Surface Mount Hinges back in 2015 and have had great results; however, my doors are much lighter than yours and are surface mounted rather than flush mounted. I'm sure you have tried doubling up on the screws to prevent twisting. If you're already using 3 hinges per door, then you probably have no choice than to use heavier duty inset hinges. Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful.
Regards, Dave

Is there a no mortise product out there for kitchen cabinets with about 165 degree opening rather than 90?
Homerenoer on May 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you have a frame less cabinet then you could use item #66613. You could use the same hinge with faceframes if you put a piece or wood behind the face frame to bring the surface out even with the edge of the faceframe itself.
