Hardwood Cutting Board Kit, 19-1/2''W x 16''L x 3/4'' Thick

This do-it-yourself cutting board kit includes a blend of maple and walnut strips for pleasing contrast. You can rearrange the strips to achieve different effects, or purchase multiple kits to create a wider cutting board. All strips are machined from quality hardwoods that will stand up to heavy cutting and chopping. The edges are milled to provide a strong glue joint. A waterproof glue is recommended for assembly. Trim to finished size and sand. You may want to route a decorative edge profile to give it a distinctive look, then finish with a food-grade product such a butcher block oil. All dimensions are approximate.

Rockler cutting board kits
For the first time making cutting boards everything came out great! I bought some supplemental Jacobi "Brazilian Cherry" and cut it to size and added it to the walnut and maple supplied in the kit. This wood added a lot of color and mad enough the boards pop'

Nice cutting board
I made the cutting board for a present. The sales personnel at Rockler were very helpful. I made the cutting thicker rather than wider. My daughters kitchen not that large. I would have attached a photo but it is in her kitchen being used.

Big Board Split into Two
This is a great kit, and due to the size it can easily be split into two 'standard' sized boards, preferably with an added side board. Kit comes without small (1/8") slats, standard in other kits. I needed to purchase appropriate strips and rip-saw to size. Would be nice to have available additional strips/slats for individual purchase. Existing kit well prepared and easy to glue up and finish.

Had to plane
In order to make it thicker rather than wider, as another person did in this thread, I had to find the narrowest board (or least thick for my application) and run every piece through the planer. Also had to replace one that came warped. Apart from that extra work and a very rough edge on one of the narrow boards, it was great. Used about ten coats of salad bowl finish letting each coat cure

Excellent DIY Choice
The kit contained very nice wood strips. As described, the finished cutting board would have been larger that I wanted so I stood the strips on edge and added mahogany strips to the outside. This brought it up to 12" wide which was the goal. I would buy it again.

Okay but not jointed!
The wood was great! Only thing wrong was the pieces of wood were not jointed and not able to have tight joints. As a result, there is some prep work needed to be done if you want the cutting board to look professional.
