It is so important that it should be bundled with each D.T. Jig; for all 12,18, & 24. The combined price should be cheaper than if sold separately!
It really cuts down on the wood shavings, dust, clothes & floor cleanup! I think it gets up to 92% of the mess.

Amazing device
I have used all manner of dust collectors over the years, and while I expected this to help reduce the blast of shavings from routing dovetails, I was beyond amazed at the effectiveness of this device. It is very ingenious in design, and with proper suction, gets virtually all of the cuttings. Any future jigs I buy will be from Leigh. Simply incredible engineering.

Must have accessory
This not only does the job as a dust collector, but even more importantly, it provides a very stable platform to produce the dovetails. Prior to this, it was somewhat difficult to keep the router completely flat while making the dovetail cuts. I have used a Leigh jig for years and this is a big improvement.

Absolutely Great Accessory
I bought this to keep chips and dust down in my shop and it does that very well when hooked to my dust collector. But I was surprised how much easier it was to cut the dovetails since it supports the router really well.
It worked much better after I waxed the finger on the jig and the base plate on my router.

Hot ticket
When I saw the number of parts I had my doubts about the usefulness of this accessory. But the long-fibered chips all over everything in the shop meant that I had to try it. Holy cow, what an ingenious device. With a pair of flexible tines that bracket the collector, 95% of the dust hits the collector as it tracks with the router. The frame of the device doubles as an additional support for the router when you turn it off. Zero chance of the router tipping forward and slipping off the jig. I couldn't be more pleased.

Works very well - as both a router rear support component and as a vacuum. Well worth the investment.

This is a must-have accessory for...
This is a must-have accessory for the Leigh jig. The only drawback if you want to call it that is that for a novice like me who has just started using the jig it was a little unnerving that the VRS blocks one's view of the cut, so I made my first few dovetails without the VRS... and sprayed chips and dust all over my shop. Once I felt comfortable with the jig I installed the VRS. Even with a small shop vac it captured the vast majority of the cutting debris and minimized post-cutting cleanup.Bottom line: the VRS was easy to install, works very well, and makes using the excellent Leigh jig a much less messy affair.

I bought this to help eliminate the mess routing dovetails. It surpassed what I expected from it. It captured nearly 100% of the chips. This encourages me to use the Leigh jig more often now.

Eliminates almost all dust and chips when routing.

Sawdust generated during box joint cuts in 3/4-inch wood is massive. Long fibers tend to hang up in router base with normal vac attachment. Vast majority go on floor. Need this badly. Wife not happy when she calls me to dinner and I'm covered with long wood fibers.

which vrs is used for the super 18" dovetail jig?
daryl r on Oct 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Daryl, there is a vrs that is specifically for the 18" superjig, and I'm guessing you are wondering because it doesn't seem to be listed at rockler. I see it on amazon for $96. I love mine for my d4r.
can this jig be modified to use on the porter cable 4212 dovetail jig ?
PWL P on Oct 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I think it probably could. You would need to fabricate some different support rails to fit the Porter-Cable jig. Those are the two black, angle-iron parts that are made to match existing holes in the Leigh jig. You would probably also need to cut the extruded aluminum router support beam from the VRS to match the length of the Porter-Cable jig.The support beam assembly just rests on the top of the support rails and is held down with powerful magnets. That way you can easily adjust it in or out for different stock thickness, or remove it altogether when you're getting it set up. You'll want to have a little bit of vertical adjustment so that you can set the top of the VRS support beam assembly flush with the top of the Porter-Cable template.
