Bronze Wool

Item #
86% of 100

This premium quality bronze wool resists shedding, rust and corrosion (as opposed to steel wool, which can leave behind small fibers that can rust and discolor wood). Bronze wool is the perfect abrasive medium for working with water-based finishes and strippers, as well as for polishing chrome and other metals.

Woodworking Experience:
Non traditional use
I didn't use the bronze wool for wood working purposes. I needed to add particulate filtration to my hot water furnace system's magnetic filter. By putting one of the bronze wool pads into the filter housing, I accomplished that purpose. The bronze wool was impervious to the water flow and provided the filtration required.

Bronze Wool
Great product. I used the finest rating type bronze wool and it did a great job with paste wax of rubbing out scuffs from other abbrasives. Fairly sturdy and one pad lasted through about 3 rub downs on a guitar.

Is this bronze wool 0000?
Dave on May 6, 2015
I'm a silversmith and am looking for fine brass wool I read about in Lapidary Journal which they said was available through Rockler, but I cannot find it listed. Is bronze wool similar?

Would this bronze wool work well for removing rust from blued gun barrels without harming the bluing ?
Skip on Jun 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Skip, I used the bronze wool I bought for exactly that purpose. It worked great. However, I used lots of oil and VERY light pressure. Friends told me this method would work and not harm the bluing so long as you use very light pressure and take your time. I found that they were right. Plenty of time and plenty of oil are the keys. I used Remington gun oil. It may be sold as Rem Oil. I hope this helps. Rick
