Our Center/Offset Marking Tool straddles your board to mark a perfectly centered line along the face or edge of boards up to 1-1/2'' wide or thick. Just insert your pencil into the center hole, rotate the tool so the guide posts contact the material, then scribe. Alternatively, you can use a pencil in the notches to mark lines from 1/16'' to 1/2'' from the edge in precise 1/16'' increments. It's great for marking out mortises and rabbets, or for making reference lines for drilling holes. The tool accepts standard wooden pencils and has an onboard pencil storage slot. An embedded magnet lets you store it on any ferrous metal surface, such as a power tool, tool chest or magnetic storage strip.

  • Fits standard wooden pencils
  • Center hole holds pencil in perfectly centered position as you scribe your line
  • Notches for offset marking let you scribe off-center lines, or lines near the edge of large panels
  • Offset notches account for the tip width of a sharpened pencil for an accurately scribed line
  • Integral magnet allows easy storage on ferrous metal surfaces
  • This item ships UPS ground only

Woodworking Experience:
Very convenient
I had a little one of these I made out of wood. It worked but was awkward. This was on sale and nicely made. Very happy with it. The addition of a magnet and the depth gauges on the sides was a nice thought and handy once you remember to use them.

Woodworking Experience:
The tool of my dreams.
How could such an inexpensive little tool become one of my most favorite ones? Easy! Its well made, keeps a pencil in one place and serves multiple purposes, both of which I use often! In the past I had a self-centering dowel jig I used to mark the center of my boards, but because it didn't have a fitting that fit a pencil I had to sand a couple of pencils down to get them to work and I was never really sure the pencil tip was centered. No more! This great little tool makes marking a center line a breeze! Though I have used my combination square in the past to mark a line from the edge of a board the metal ruler tended to scratch the wood as well, meaning I had to sand out an ugly line very so often. Not with this guy, though! Smooth plastic means it glides along the edge of a workpiece leaving nothing but a pencil mark. The added magnet and pencil holder means I can leave a dedicated pencil sitting in this tool, specifically for this tool, and I dont have to search for one to use it. A sound investment!

Surprisingly useful
I've used this a surprising amount. It's also a great place to store pencils that I can never seem to find.

I needed a more reliable way to mark center lines than my combination square. The price looked great and I will use this a ton.
Joe P on Sep 2, 2018
I've been wanting to make one of these, but for $10 it's well worth my time.
The time I save fiddling to get something like this done accurately is worth way more than the $10 I spent on it.

Always needing to find the center of thin boards and using my self-centering dowel jig is getting old. This looks very useful, and is actually made for what I'm trying to do.

Mark H on Apr 26, 2018
Looks phenomenally useful. Easier and faster, with round runners that won't snag like the square corners of a combination square. However, it looks like marking all the way to the end of a corner, will be problematic. Love the magnet/pencil holder storage engineering.

Does it come in metric?
Danny B on Nov 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It makes no difference. It finds the perfect center every time if used properly. Before You would use a rule or measuring tape and mark several points and then line them up. Then take a Straight Edge and connect your marks. This tool is so simple that its value can be easily overlooked. I have tools that ran up into the hundreds when they where new. Somebody was really thinking when this came to mind.
how long does it go to make the circle?
Leonard R on Feb 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This is for finding the center of a board. Or for marking increments with side spacers. Good for dado's and mortise and tenons. Don't see how it is used for circles. Hope it helps
Is there a tool for a 3/4" offset? I need to follow a 48"R arc.
jmotlagh on Jul 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Most speed squares have a 3/4" notch that can be used to scribe this measurement. It is the smallest notch on most speed squares and goes up from there.
