Rockler Center/Offset Marking Tool

Straddles your board to mark a perfectly centered line, or you can use the notches to mark offset lines from 1/16'' to 1/2'' from the edge in 1/16'' increments.

Our Center/Offset Marking Tool straddles your board to mark a perfectly centered line along the face or edge of boards up to 1-1/2'' wide or thick. Just insert your pencil into the center hole, rotate the tool so the guide posts contact the material, then scribe. Alternatively, you can use a pencil in the notches to mark lines from 1/16'' to 1/2'' from the edge in precise 1/16'' increments. It's great for marking out mortises and rabbets, or for making reference lines for drilling holes. The tool accepts standard wooden pencils and has an onboard pencil storage slot. An embedded magnet lets you store it on any ferrous metal surface, such as a power tool, tool chest or magnetic storage strip.

  • Fits standard wooden pencils
  • Center hole holds pencil in perfectly centered position as you scribe your line
  • Notches for offset marking let you scribe off-center lines, or lines near the edge of large panels
  • Offset notches account for the tip width of a sharpened pencil for an accurately scribed line
  • Integral magnet allows easy storage on ferrous metal surfaces

Time Saver!
I recently used to build a door jamb and casing. It was a time saver for the reveal on the casing. It also works great when you need to cut off just that small sliver using a circular saw. Place your offset marking tool against your work and mark away.

Wish I had this device forty years ago, makes lap joints a snap.
Used this for the first time yesterday, to layout the centerline on the edge of a board. Easy, accurate, no brained.

Woodworking Experience:
Great to have stuck on your bandsaw!
I usually honest hate plastic pre-made gages as I can make the all in my shop out of scrap wood. But this one is so nicely done and has the magnet holder and pencil pocket.

I use it all the time on the bandsaw for marking the guide for re-sawing stock before planning. Also has clever notches for other common offsets!

Is there a tool for a 3/4" offset? I need to follow a 48"R arc.
jmotlagh on Jul 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Most speed squares have a 3/4" notch that can be used to scribe this measurement. It is the smallest notch on most speed squares and goes up from there.
Where can I buy your tools from in the UK please . Thank you from andy w.?
andy wright on Feb 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This not a product question at all from Andy. Purchasing Rockler products locally in the UK could be nearly impossible, but I believe Rocklers will deliver/ship to UK. Please contact Rockler's directly Andy
Can this be used to make a parallel line along the face of a round table?
Pamela S on Feb 7, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I would say Yes to this question. If there is a flat top to sit on, you would be able to create several lines even with the edge of the table. That is on a round table. I would think that it would not work on an oval table.
I have the Rockler Center/Offset Marking Tool, but unfortunately a normal pencil will not fit in the provided hole (too small), unless I have a defective one. So, my question is where can I find the correct size pencil?
Gary on Dec 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I use a Pentel mechanical pencil
Would this work on round stock?
Nikonguy on Jan 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You could but you would need to set up a stop on one side to keep it from rolling over the round stock.
What is the maximum lumber size this device will stradle?
Alan W on Dec 23, 2017

The post opposite the purchased one at the 65th anniversary celebration. The post opposite the magnetic post is recessed with through holes. What is the purpose?
Jon L on Feb 23, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Im guessing that it would be for hanging on a nail if you don't have a metal surface in the area.
