One of the most effective ways to reduce splintering when cutting either solid wood or veneered plywood on your table saw is to use a zero-clearance insert. Unlike the typically wide-gapped, standard throatplate that comes with the saw, a zero-clearance insert enables you to cut a tight-fitting blade slot that supports fragile wood grain right up to the teeth, for an immediate improvement in cutting quality. Our low-friction phenolic inserts are extremely durable, stay flat and can be custom-fitted to the throatplate openings of many saw models. Use your factory throatplate as a template to rout the insert blanks to the size and shape you need with a Shear Cutting Flush Trim Bit or a Double-Bearing Shear Flush Trim Router Bit (#24740 or #27867, both sold separately). Our exclusive Phenolic Countersink Drill Bit (#34423, sold separately) is helpful for drilling holes through the insert plates for installing the included leveler screws.
