Run your finger along the edge of Rockler's premium Lathe Tool Rests, and you'll know instantly what a pleasure they are to use. That's because each tool rest is capped with a 5/16" round stainless steel bar, providing a silky smooth surface for your turning tools to glide across, and a comfortable contour for your fingers to slide in as you work. The rests are available in three sizes, so you can pick the one most suited to your work. Short rests allow you to sneak in closer, even if other parts of the workpiece are wider, while longer rests provide more sliding surface without having to readjust. 5/8" diameter mounting post fits most mini and midi lathes.

Very good rest
This is longer and smoother than the stock tool rest that came with my mini Jet lathe. I will probably order other lengths as well. Lathe tools slide easily along the rounded top surface.

Sturdy
I have used this for the last year on a bargain lathe that I got from a discount tool store. The spring steel on the top is ultra durable and is just as smooth as when I bought it. Only complaint is that the paint chipped off the post almost instantly, but it really does not hinder the performance in any way. Would buy again.

Constantly having to move and readjust a small tool rest that is supplied with the lathe is time waisted. This 10" rest will enable me to nearly turn the entire blank with one setting.

I've been using the Rockler aftermarket tool rests for almost 2 years. They are by far the most comfortable and well weighted accessory rests that you can buy! Super smooth edges for your hand and tools to rest against make for a perfect pairing with any brand lathe.

I have a 7/16 " post . Where do I find that post size ?
Brian C on Jun 17, 2016
How long is the post ?
A shopper on Apr 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Posts are 2-3/8" long.
I'm looking for a tool rest with a 1/2" diameter post and about 4 inches long (for a vintage lathe); any suggestions?
Herman S on Mar 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm not sure the Rockler tool rests that I purchased will fit your lathe if it has a 1/2" post requirements. The tool rests that I purchased (the 4:, 6" and 10"...) all have a 5/8" post. I've never heard of a lathe with a 1/2" post requirement, but maybe older lathes do??> I LOVE tyhe three posts I purchased at Rockler as the hardened stainless steel edge is wonderful! The tool rests are less than half the price as most others and at least twice as good! Can you 'ream or drill' out hyour banjo so it will accept the 5/8: posts? Just a thought as 5/8" posts are very common while 1/2" postgs are not... Safe turning to you!
MY LATHE TAKES A ONE INCH POST. HOW CAN I MAKE A 5/8 INCH POST WORK?

Will this fit my Central Machinery model 65345 Mini Wood Lathe?

will Rockler 10" Lathe Tool Rest fit the Excelsior lathe ?
JERRY A on Feb 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The tool rest was a Christmas gift to Bill H... Bill calls the rest "a Rolls Royce of tool rests" and yes it fits the lathe perfectly..
I just purchased a Jet, which takes a 1 inch post. the post is 2.5 inches long instead of 5 inches. Do you make tool rests with those dimensions? If so, i need at least two of different lengths.
John P on Sep 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, Robust 6" Wide Low Profile Woodturning Tool Rest
I got one on Amazon.
Does this tool rest fit the Jet mini lathe?
joe k on Jan 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I've used it my Rikon mini lathe and Jet1221VS and it fits perfectly! I'm especially pleased with the top edge of the rest as it's capped with a harden steel rod which resists all but the most tenacious abuse. I purchased all three sizes and use them daily. Safe turning to you!
I have a harbor freight 12x33 wood lathe. Will these fit my lathe?
Charles C on Feb 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: That lathe has a one inch tool rest. You will need to use the bushing with it.
what is the height from the top of the tool rest to the top of the banjo when fully lowered? I just bought a nova rest and it is too high for small spindle work
celia s on Nov 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: When sitting at it's lowest point flush against the banjo, it's 1 9/16" high. From the ways, it's 4 3/4" high. I have both the 4" and 10" rests and their height is the same. I would assume the 6"would follow suit, but you know what they say about assumptions ;)
is the mounting post for all tool rests a standard height dimension?
larry h on Nov 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, the height of the post usually depends upon size and make of the lathe. For example, a Jet 1221VS post is 5/8" in diameter, but can be as short as 2 1/4". However, an 18" Laguna lathe has a 1" post and must be 5" long.
My lathe is old, the tool rest post is 7/8 and I can't find a replacement.
anyone know where I can get one????

What is the hardness of the stainless steel bar on this?
Gary L on Dec 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It’s smoother and harder than the original bar that came with my mid sized lathe. It’s also longer which was the main reason I got it. I’m very satisfied with it.
I have a oneway lathe 1018 will the post fit this?
K E on Nov 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This is a 5/8 inch post. You would have to measure yours. There are adapters, but again, you need to know the size of your current post.
will this work on a Jet lathe?

BEST ANSWER: Yes
Will 5/8 inch diameter post work suitably in Grizzley 1495 which has 3/4 inch posts?
Charles S on Aug 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I't would be to sloppy in the hole and may not tighten down. I have it for my Excalibur and it is a little loose for mine. Trying to put it in a much larger hole would not work........Steve.
